I've been watching this rifle on Gunbroker for months now. Its a GAP Rock spec built in .308. Been after one of these for a while. Got the serial number from the seller. Called GAP but they are not able to tell me too much about the rifle because it pre-dates a billing system they have migrated to. Seller doesn't know to much about the rifle other than its real nice. No build sheet, no side blot release. Cant tell if trigger is factory but looks like jewel.

Price is too rich for me as listed but curious to know what you folks think about buying from a pawn shop selling on gunbroker little known on round count. ...I mean its a GAP Rock in .308, pretty sturdy right?

Also, thoughts on a reasonable price minus scope rings and bi-pod?

Thanks

They're nice rifles but pretty dated at this point. The IOR scope is worthless to me and I try not to buy tuned up factory actions. Maybe 12 or 13 years ago I'd have felt differently but not for that price today.

I agree with cascade. The rock to me was the rubber stamp Tac rifle from the early/mid 2000’s. Even then I’d have chosen an A series stock. The HTG’s comb is miles too low for me.

Looking at GA’s site you could buy a brand new one for 3500, and have your choice of long/short, caliber, and color. The IOR is valueless to me.

Pretty much. With prefits and mini chassis being so prevalent it kind of leaves these mid 2000's Remington bases 308 custom rifles in this no-man's land of value. You can build a ridiculously nice rifle on a custom action in your garage for less than $3500. No to mention, as you said, the HTI stock is really out of vogue. Don't get me wrong, those were good guns but I don't think I could bring myself to pay more than $2k for one brand new let alone used.

To much. I bought a GAP Kaufjager 260 off the hide for $2,400. Has a M5 stock, BO snipershide marked pic rail. Is a factory 700 with a GAP tuned 40x trigger. Less than a 100 rounds

To me that’s a $2,000 rifle if the bore and rifling looks good.

The glory days for those rifles are definitely gone, especially at that asking price. I agree with "rope" on the price at $2,000.00 even then I would still be hard for me to buy it. Demands change with time, in today's market you will be really fortunate to get back the money you have tide up in guns. Maybe someone will buy it for sentimental reasons.

Reactions: rope
$1600 rifle and $600 piece of shit scope. TOPS! The rings are likely TPS and the bipod a knock-off, so no value. Yesterday’s tech or not...timeless effective build from a good builder, but the market for used factory based customs is way soft. Get the builders stamp as some people have hard-ons for some of GAP’s former smiths. May have a niche appeal.
