I just put a 223/5.56 white oak 20" varmint barrel on my precision build. It came with a non adjustable gas black, which I installed. Everything cycles fine, but wondering if there would be any benefits of installing a adjustable. Seems there's mixed reviews on adjustable blocks when it comes to 20" rifle length gas systems. I'm fine with the clamp on non adjustable that was included, but also dont mind going adjustable if there is worthy benefit.

Thanks

Seems like the shorter the barrel and gas system the more useful an agb is.
That being said my 20 inch 6.5g is getting one soon.

Imho

If somehow the gas port is absolutely perfectly sized to just lock back the bolt with the ammo you run there would be no benefit.

If the gun seems to shoot smooth and isn’t overgassed, and you don’t shoot suppressed, then I’d leave it be and put that $100 towards something more useful. If it seems over gassed or you shoot suppressed, then absolutely it’s worth doing an adjustable block to tune it.

Excessive muzle flip, jump, brass slinging to hell and back , brass beat up.
Loss of sight picture unable to spot shots, dirty chamber and face.

I can shoot like that and have but no reason to these days.
I am new to tuning an ar and learning but have shot some well tuned guns
recently and can tell even the oldest codger out there they wish they had them.

Every piece of tuning done right, can be felt and measured if you wish but
It does work and can cut moa / practical hit times down a lot.

I have been a skeptic old shit for a long time now, a professional by any standard,
for the price I'm saying just do it IMHO.

Seekins low profiles are currently on sale on Primary Arms and there’s an additional 12% off with “save12”. I just picked up another one for like 55-60 bucks for a wanna be 3 fun rifle I’m putting together. Something worth checking out.

Just had a AR 10 factory gun with a cheap clamp on style come loose, was not mine but given to me to figure out the issue was.
It moved enough to cut off/down to be a single shot rifle.
Replaced gas block with Geissele low profile which I am a fan of 69.00.
I also like the low profile Wilson combat adjustable, both require a dimpled barell which you can do if it is not already.
I'll second what snuby said.

I didn't notice any meaning full difference on my 18" RLGS with a SLR Adj. GB.

IMHO, I believe the money spent on the Adj. GB, would have been better spent on a better trigger or muzzle brake.

I just got an adjustable buffer from Odin. It adjusts weight using metal pieces. The theory is to start heavy and reduce weight with each shot until you find the lowest weight buffer that will still lock back the bolt on the last round. Going to do it to all of my ARs.
