Need some opinions on barrel contour for a 22in 6.5CM +2 barrel. Thinking of having one spun up for an SP10. Weight really isn’t a factor to me as the gun is heavy already and will be shot from a tripod most often.
The AR10 HBAR contour (1.150, .980, .750 GB, .740 muzzle) works well on my .243 Win (24", rifle length). Bigger but not too big. I plan on getting the same contour but going to a +2 when I replace it. Have used it in a 1000 yard match and more recently in PRS. Barrel is from X-Caliber.
I went back and forth between Craddock Precision and XCaliber barrels when building my Creedmoor gasser. I settled on an 18" from Craddock and ended up with a similar contour as the XCaliber HBAR above. It's very chunky under the handguard and gradually tapers down to the 0.750" gas block, and I really feel like it's a good compromise. I think the HBAR above from XCaliber would be just about perfect for a 22". If you go for a 22" from Craddock, you can't get the 0.750" gas block, as their Medium-Heavy with 0.875" gas block is their lightest contour for a 22". Either option should give you consistent performance across strings of fire without being excessively heavy. Good luck!
Yeah I just don’t know what the contour is of the blanks that Seekins uses. Like what’s the OD of the barrel after the chamber section. Similiar to a Remington heavy varmint? If that’s the case I’d just keep it straight all the way to the 0.875 gas block journal. Then step down to 0.874 to the muzzle
