I like both of these cans will buy buying one next month

I have a Gemtech MK9K and love it, don't know much about the 30-P1

Called both companies and asked the same questions. I will be mounting this can on a Rem 5r, a 13.7" 5.56 AR, 8" 300 blk AR.

Thunderbeast stated not to get the can too hot with the 5.56 maybe 30 rounds in around 1 minute (my typical three gun match).

Gemtech stated that I could mag dump the Sandstorm with the 13.7" AR and would be fine "It is approved for 10" and above barrels"

It will mostly be shot on the 5R.

Accuracy and FIRST ROUND predictability is my #1 priority.

I have seen LowLights vids and the post stating it took 500 rounds for the Sandstorm to get better..(don't really understand that)

what is your experience if your have shot/owned one of the above.

Thank you

Re: Gemtech Sand Storm or Thunder Beast 30-p1?

I hope your 13.7" AR15 is registered as a SBR......

And that its threaded 5/8x24. Either that or you are going to have to buy an adapter to run that Sandstorm. I would not mag dump thru any Ti can.... but that's just me.

The Sandstorm takes about 300-500 rounds to "break in" after that its very repeatable on cold bore shot.

I would prefer to buy the TBAC with my money.

What is a SBR....? Thread adaptor? how does it work?....JK

Now that we got that out of the way, did it take 300-500 rounds for your Sandstorm to get better..or did you read that some where? Break in for a can...non of my other cans needed a break in.

They improved to baffle stack a couple of years ago maybe that helped? which one do you own?

Re: Gemtech Sand Storm or Thunder Beast 30-p1?

I have a Sandstorm and a TBAC 338 can. I would go with the TBAC any day of the week. My Sandstorm had to go back to be rewelded after about 30 rounds. Hairline cracks around the welds on both ends of the can. Shoots fine now, BUT. Shouldn't have happened after such low round count. It also had a problem with compressed baffles and had a bad rattle after the 30 rounds. Gemtech also fixed it. My TBAC 338 can is fantastic. If I didn't already own 3 other 30. cans I would buy the TBAC 30 cal can.

Re: Gemtech Sand Storm or Thunder Beast 30-p1?

I don't have a Sandstorm so I can't comment on that but I do have a Thunderbeast 30P-1 and it was accurate from day 1 on the rifle. I have two other suppressors - a Gemtech HVT and a AAC M4/2000 and I am not a fan of the QD suppressors and probably would never buy another one.

Re: Gemtech Sand Storm or Thunder Beast 30-p1?

I have paperwork pending on both cans, but I see more TBAC 30-P1's in my future. I only have the sandstorm coming because I shot it months before I could demo a 30 P-1, otherwise I would be buying only a 30 P-1. Mine will be coming via the same gentleman that is doing the TBAC group buy now.

TBAC 30 P-1 is the precision can.

That gentleman doing the TBAC group buy is a fine man, Got me hooked on TBAC cans. Just too bad he moved away. We were destined to become best friends.

They told me 30-40 rounds in one minute and STOP would be ok (my tipical 3 gun stage)..just don't get it too hot.

Re: Gemtech Sand Storm or Thunder Beast 30-p1?

Just a reminder guys- the 30P-1 and 30BA are precision rifle cans, intended for when accuracy is more important than rate of fire. They are not intended for SBRs with regular full-power cartridges like .308 or 5.56 Using them in these applications may increase baffle wear and will heat them up a lot faster. Obviously you can screw the suppressor on these rifles and shoot it; however, keep in mind that it's not what they are meant for. (The .300Whisper/Fireball/BK are OK because of very small powder charges).

The 223P-1 has a different baffle stack to reduce back pressure and it uses some stainless steel baffles to withstand more typical 5.56 firing schedules and muzzle blast, even with SBR's. For unlimited full auto applications, there's the 223A. It is made of inconel and stainless which are the right materials for extreme temperature applications.

hope this helps

Re: Gemtech Sand Storm or Thunder Beast 30-p1?

I would definitely go TBAC over Gemtech. I shot my 30P-1 on my bolt gun clean, cold bore and can for the first time and Zero impact shift. On the other hand my Gemtech HVT has POI shift of a couple of inches right and down at 100 yards. I don't like the fact that one manufacturer can build it with no shift and another can not.
I have 2 friends that bought 30P-1's the same time and they each had the same results with theirs...Zero shift.
I ordered 2 more TBAC today!!
