Have you guys heard any good things about the Gen 4 Glocks? I'm looking at buying the .40 cal Gen4 Glock but do any of you know if the barrels are interchangeable between .40 and 9mm Gen 4s?

Re: Generation 4 Glocks?

I spoke with my local smith about them. He said they've had four come back to the shop with broken guide rods. Last weekend I RO'd at a local GSSF match and asked the armorer about it. I was told that while he hadn't seen any of the failures personally he knew Glock was changing the GR's and they would be in by the end of the month.

I like the RTF texturing on the the grip. I'm still not sure how I like the new cocking serrations... I asked about the backstraps. They apparently call them "inserts" but IMO they sound more like panels. The backstrap panels are not like the M&P. They fit over the grip and are held in place by a pin. The Gen4 starts out as a short frame. You remove the pin (which is actually a G36 pin) and the med. insert brings the grip size up to about the size of a std. med. frame (17, 22, etc.). The large insert brings the dimensions to just under a large frame.

I'm sure they'll get the guide rod issue worked out but you won't be able to use earlier mags without modifying them due to the reversible mag release.

Re: Generation 4 Glocks?

My brother in law has one it shoots great, I've shot it. I can check it against my Gen 3 9mm tomorrow and up date as far as the interchangeability of the magazines and slide.

Pretty sure he has checked in to a 9mm conversion and it is possible, again will confim tomorrow.

Re: Generation 4 Glocks?

Thanks for all the info and help guys. My hands are on the small side as I'm 5'3" and my current Gen 3 22 Glock is a little big for my likeing...I've always loved the feel of the 1911 grips but I figured the Gen 4 with the slimmer grip profile might be where it's at...I'll have to run by the local gun store this weekend and give it a try.
