cub scout pack had a visit tonight from a local Marine recruiter, the kids had a blast asking tons of questions and our Marine did a great job deflecting all the weaponry questions from the kids who play too much MOH. the boys all took time during the meeting to make cards thanking the guys and gals currently serving overseas and now i'm wondering how to get the cards over there. I'm told the red cross can help but i'm curious if there's a better avenue that any of you guys may know about. USO? any of the wives clubs?

Jason - We are in the same boat on this. Lil' Clawz' cub scout pack is seeking a contact(s) for gift boxes and cards. (ongoing - not just holiday) I do not wish to go the traditional route and would prefer a contact through the Hide.

I thought about AmericanSnipers.org but figured they may be too big now as well.

Please PM me if you have something.

Depending on your locale, you might try googling "Soldier's Angels". I live in Western WA, not to far from JBLM and my wife and I have worked with SA on similar things. It's a great organization.

What kind of unit are you guys looking for? I'm at Leatherneck right now with EOD; can get PJ's, Marine Combat Engineers, Seabees, even other countries if you really want.

I second Soldiers Angles. I know several of the organizers and they have contacts at many of the more shit-hole FOB's scattered around the country. Those of us in here Kabul or the main bases have access to AAFES and similar stores from other nations. The guys out in the hinterland don't, hell, some of them don't even have internet access. I'd suggest focusing your efforts on those guys as communication with family/friends is everything when you're stuck over here. A second option would be the USO, but they are only at the main bases (Bagram, Kandahar, etc..)
