Took the 338 LM to the range yesterday after loading up several different COAL and powder charges. I am using 300gr Berger OTM's in Lapua brass with GM215M primers over H1000. I have been using 85 gr of H1000 at mag length but decided to play with it. It has always been an accurate rifle but what the hell right?
The 5 shot group is the standard 85.0 gr kissing the lands. It was .460 MOA at 300 yards.
Unfortunately I only had 3 rounds loaded for the other group so I couldn't make it a 5 round group, but it looks promising. .208 MOA at 300 yards. This was 88.0gr of H1000 and 25 thou off the lands. I have to single feed these as they do not fit in the mag. I started seeing flattened primers at 89gr and that load was not accurate at all so I stopped there.
Next test is loading up 5 rounds of 87.6, 88, and 88.4 both 25 thou off the lands and right on the lands. If this rifle gets to .2MOA at 300 yards with 5 shot groups I will be extremely pleased. I have never been a believer in 3 shot groups, however the trend as I moved up from 87 grains to 88 was very consistent. 87 was a very good group as well, much smaller than .5MOA, so that's 6 rounds around .3 MOA, so I'm hopeful.
