So I just bought a defiance action and 24” mtu rock creek 6 dasher barrel. Barrel has 3400 rounds on it. My question is can I have 2”” cut off and re-chambered to dasher again and still have a match barrel or do I just rechamber it to something else for a hunting round and have a new dasher barrel for matches. This is going to be my first build and this rifle will have to serve double duty as a match and hunting rifle. It will be going into a switchlug build so it’ll need to be rechambered regardless.

Unless you're a gunsmith or have the skills/ability to do your own chambering, I've never understood why anyone would want to spend the money on having a barrel set-back and chambered for the half-life you might get back from the barrel. Like jbell says, shoot the thing and then just spend the money on a new barrel.

Best thing to keep in mind is that barrels are consumables like bullets or powder. So many people spend so much time money and effort trying to nurse a little more life out of a barrel that has lived its life.
