So, I've been mostly an action shooter the last few years. I've participated in IDPA and CAS, yep CAS, what can I say, I dig the western-style historical firearms! Anyway, I suffered an injury a few months back, a ruptured quadriceps tendon in my right leg. I had to wait considerably long to finally get it repaired and will not be very mobile for a while. A couple of years ago I got in on the Dick's Sporting Goods Black Friday sale and got one of the Remy 700 Varmints in .308 for a great deal. My intentions then was to start doing some long range shooting as I've always been fascinated with "the long shot". It's a skill that I admire and wanted to gain some confidence in being able to perform. Well, I kept up the action shooting and from time to time would take out the 700 and send a few rounds down range. It was quite fun, just didn't have any fellow shooters I knew that had much interest.

I really miss shooting and haven't sent a round downrange of any kind in over three months. This after usually going to a couple of CAS matches a month and at least one IDPA match a month, plus just the fun range trips to shoot. Early on with my injury I started forming a plan to get back out shooting. I figured it was time to get back on the 700 and start learning. I've spent a great deal of time lurking here on the Hide researching the skills required. I've gotten the dies to start building ammo and acquired the components. I've been reading through the reloading forum and am enjoying the .308 FGMM thread (Thanks Dan!). When I did shoot my 700 I was getting sub-MOA out of the box with FGMM factory ammo and figure that is a good point to start.

On Monday I go to see my ortho surgeon and I believe he will finally allow me to start putting weight on my right leg again. I am still a long way from being able to walk unassisted but I will be able to get around better using crutches. I have an 18 year old son that is motivated, too, and he will help with setting targets while we shoot. Starting off, as long as I can get to the bench, I can shoot with him along. We'll both be developing loads. Mine for long range target punching and he, with his Remy, a deer hunting load. So, if everything goes as planned Monday, hopefully by next weekend I'll be sitting at a bench at my range shooting some .308, weather permitting.

The point of all this is to let you guys know that I really appreciate the resources this forum provides and everyone who contributes allows this to be so. From the newb questions that spark debates on everything from glass to primer types to the in-depth discussions from the experienced members that share so much knowledge that is not so cheaply acquired.

Thanks guys! I am looking forward to getting back behind a firearm!
