so i have two rem 700s, one old one new and i cannot get the timney triggers to anywhere near 2# (they say they should go down to 1.5#). anywhere near that point, the set screw is backed all the way out. this is the 511 for my lefty bolt guns. any ideas?

Pull weight ranges will always depend on multiple factors - cocking piece geometry, FP spring weight, lube, etc.

If you're trying to go lower, I'd suggest biting the bullet for a Calvin Elite or a similar trigger from TriggerTech, etc.

just got my two timney's back from them. they said both are set at 1.5#. in my one r700 it fires at 3#, the other at 2.5#. so a full pound to 1.5 over what they said they got in their test rifles. i've cleaned up the bolts, lightly lubed. i can't believe they are bs-ing me but what gives? has anyone got their timney 510/511 in r700's to 1.5# or even 2#?

I had a 517 (flat) that was down to just over 1#. Tolerance stacking is a thing on triggers like this since there's so many pieces involved that Timney doesn't control.

The 511's are terrible, the newish 510's not much better. The new green hunter triggers will do 1.5 and feel decent. They also said the sear shouldn't be adjusted even though different guns may require sear adjustment to perform properly so take what they say with a grain of salt.

If you want a light trigger go timney calvin elite or triggertech diamond. If you arent happy with your 511 then you wont be happy with a triggertech special either as they are comparable. I went to all calvin elites myself.

I have never used a triggertech diamond but have used and sold a triggertech special. I have never used a trigger pull weight gauge either because it just gives a number. I go by feel and then safety check.

Agreed on the Calvin Elites. I have 3 of them (2 bolt gun, 1 gas gun) and I have been very happy with them across the board.

I have two that won't get below 2 lbs without occasional dropping the during pin as I close the bolt. I don't care for timney at all after buying a Calvin elite 2 stage and it having creep. I will buy something else for now on. Their ar15 trigger I tried was horrible, sold it right away.

I didn't have any problems getting 2# with my 510. Used quarters in a Walmart bag to check pull weight. I don't really trust $20 spring scales made in China to be true. So it could be your scales???

Hope I don't run into that problem as I'm about to get another 510 on a new build to match my "regular" rifle. Hope you get it figured out. My 510 is the new style and I didn't mess with anything but the pull weight screw.

i'm not sure what else to do to figure it out... the one trigger has been worked on twice by them, the other, once. i haven't tested my pull gauge but it does show 2# on two other guns, and i took a bunch of pulls and it is consistent.

these are both hunting rifles so i guess i will just leave good enough (or almost good enough) alone, but am disappointed i spent the $$ and am nowhere close to what they say is 1.5#.
