I just got my Giraud Trimmer today and I was using it in the first 10 minutes of unboxing it. What the hell have I been waiting for all my life? I trimmed fifty 308 cases in just about 10 minutes and I was taking my time checking my overall size on every round just to get my technique correct. It cuts and chamfers the case at the same time and thus cutting out a step for me and saving time.

If you can afford it I can't think of anything that is better for reloaders to save time and make a nice cut. I will be in love for at least the next couple of hours. Easy to use and it looks easy to maintain.

I just ordered one a couple of days ago. I have heard that it takes some technique to get the chamfer even. Is that true? Even if it is, given the time savings, I probably don't care any way, but I am just curious.

+1. SSShhhhh- don't tell Doug this!!

If your cutter head is slightly off center, it will chamfer more to one side. To off-set this, you can spin the case as it finishes the cut to make it even all the way around. Or you can reposition the cutter head until you get it just right without spinning the case. I get it real close and still give the brass a spin for an even cut all the way around.

These trimmers are great. In my experience, with my shooting capability, a slight uneven chamfer will make no difference in my accuracy. I make sure to give it a spin after trimming just to be safe. The time savings is tremendous.

Since I just started and still learning a technique pattern I have started by placing the case in the trimmer and spin to get the case length and then lightly put it in one more time and twirl the brass to make sure I get an even cut. Not sure if that is perfect but I will learn as I go.

at the moment Doug is my hero

I had mine in three weeks. If you call them they can give you an accurate time line but I can say this; it is worth the wait. I used it several times yesterday and I am still wondering why I waited a year to pull the trigger.

OK cool. I'm probably going to call Monday. It's payday and what better to blow some cash on right ?

Oh, and we need pics!

What calibers did you get ? Have you tried changing them out yet ?

Re: Giraud Trimmer Came Today.

I've been using a Giraud for a year now. Completely agree on the "why did I wait so long?" comments. Great product and good folks to deal with.

I only shoot .223 and .308/.260. So I have two complete set ups (caseholder and blade) for each case diameter. Then, I just fine tune the blade for neck diameter differences between .308 & 6.5 and tweak the overall length (caseholder adj). Both adjustments are straight forward.
I probably end up swapping back and forth about 1x/month and it hasn't been a hassle. Even more simple would be to have a separate blade and caseholder for each caliber but that strikes me as a little overkill.

Great product though.

some things are worth what you pay for them, some things are not worth what you pay for them. The third group is items that are worth way more then you pay for them. Most of us I would suspect are tite with our pennies and needed a puish to pull teh trigger. I was no diffrent. the press paid for itself the first evening when I trimmed and champher about 200- 22-250 cases.

It's one of those things that you say "Why teh hell did I put this off so long1!" Worth 10x what I paid for it as far as I am concerned. My hands used to hurt after chamfering a 100 cases. that lack of pain teh first night paid for my tool. Not to mention the champhers being nearly identical and all my brass within 1/10000 of each other.

take teh plunge and you will be glad you did. If you change your mind the tools last about 4 minutes in the classified section. Jeff
