Rifle Scopes Give me some idea about this unertl

Got a question here. I got offered this unertl scope for some of my other gear I have for sale. I don't know a thing about it. I know guys like them, and they are supposed to be built like tanks. I know people like them for building clone rifles of the M40, but I have no want and or need to build up a nice clone. The owner says its new, sure looks it from the photos. I guess my question is, what is the value of it, and is there a market for it? The owner says he has $3750-$3800 in it, but would trade it for $3500 in value. Is this thing worth that much? I have no idea.

Unertl's and USO's are made from different materials. There is another one on here for $3k. They could have been purchased at one time for $2250 but that was then! I guess it is what the market will bear?

Oh, don't get me wrong, I wouldn't pay that much for it. I've got a USO. He wanted to know if I was interested in it to trade for some of my other stuff. I'd trade him, and then sell off the unertl. I thought his price sounded high, but like I said, what do I know? Do the ones that had the USMC markings go for more?

Fair enough. Everything is only worth what someone would pay for it. I think what this guy is asking for his is too much. I just wanted to check before I emailed him back.

judging by the serial number its just an unertl, the T designation are the scopes that were made after the company was sold and the people who bought the company hired an employee to put together unertls shop to put them together in a basement. That is where the "t" designation comes from. if it had USMC on it i would strongly question where it came from because civilians arent supposed to get them. I wouldnt pay 3K + for it if that helps

I'm pretty sure Unertl was selling them again within the past year for 2500.00 I don't see the value of these being anymore than that and I don't see the value rising at all with the T series.. Anything with USMC markings wether it's the USO or Unertl is another story

i think that you and i are saying the same thing without saying. The unertl in question isnt a USMC piece of property. The "T" designation was made after Unertl was sold and they starting trying to make a buck of the orginal company's name

Sounds like it. I don't want one. If I had one, I'd sell it. Its great that guys want them for retro builds, but I have no use for it.
