I recently purchased a Remington 700 SPS in 308. I would like some opinions on what brands and magnification I should go with. The max distance I will be shooting is 500 yards. I would also like something in moa adjustments that isn't too pricey. Your opinions are appreciated

I have a Leupold Mark 4 4.5-14x40 w/ TMR on my .308 SPS and if I was only going to 500 yards it would be the perfect scope. I shoot 600 regularly and it treats me well there. I have had it out to 1200 recently and I could have used a little more magnification. 10" plates at 1000 were a little difficult but I still got them. I am probably upgrading to the 6-20 soon.

Something in MOA adjustments???? Hmmmm, you want the affordable best 2009 scope, with 1999 technology, that's fairly easy:

Good MIL/MOA Scopes, not in any particular order:

Nikon Monarch X 2.5-10x44mm Model 8412 around $800.
Bushnell 4200 6-24x50MM Model 426245T around $550.
Bushnell 6500 2.5-16x42MM Model 652164T around $650.
IOR 2.5x10x42mm around $799.
Sightron 3.5-10x44MM Model SIIISS3510X44LRMD around $700.00

Those are brands that I trust; that are not too god awful expensive; and feature the very best, circa 1999, MIL/MOA SFP adjustments.

There is nothing else cheaper I trust in MIL/MOA, but as mentioned Falcon and SWFA SS, offer fine variable scopes, in FFP MIL/MIL, which is 2009 technology, in a 2009 package. YMMV....

Best of luck with your choice,

Bob
