Yeah, finally? Never should have put that stuff on the market. They would have caught 99% of the problems had they just tested the stuff before putting it on the market --that they didn't is obvious due to the problems people were having. I had a G20 frame, NIB, and it wouldn't hold a magazine, but if you shoved it in hard enough to seat, the whole damn assembly would fall out. I finally got them to fix it and they replaced the release with a standard one, but not before trying to stick me with the shipping, etc. That frame, at the time I sent it back, had not been fired. It was non-functional right out of the box.
BTW, I have six Glocks. I love 'em, I carry a G27 or 29 pretty much anywhere I go and feel very confident and comfortable with them, but just the fact they put those 4th gens. on there with that many problems just made me think twice about dealing with them in the future. The main reason I like 'em in the first place is that they are simple and reliable. Hell, I have to think about operating the safety on anything else anymore.
I have mostly 3rd gens., none have any problems at all. A 2nd Gen G17 (late 2nd gen.) from the 80's is probably one of my favorites. I just like how it feels without the grooves and it shoots great. It's worn out a bunch of smaller parts, but the pistol itself is holding up fine after tens of thousands of rounds.
You can't go wrong with a used Glock either, they are probably one of the better pistols to get used. Most folks don't shoot nowhere near enough to wear one out --my 2nd gen.? Police trade in, been factory refurbished, then I used it for a beater. I tried to wear it out and I couldn't do it. If you plan on using it for defense, you want to leave it as stock as possible too.
A used Glock would make a great truck beater pistol, and the G19 is quite popular.
