I recently purchased a G19 and so far have ran around 300 rounds through it. At the end of a range session a couple weeks ago the slide failed to lock back a couple times on one magazine so I marked it.

I went to the range today and started having problems with both the factory magazines that came with it. They didn't lock back around 80% of the time. I was just loading a couple rounds, sometimes only one, in a magazine at a time so even though I only shot maybe 100 rounds there were plenty of mag changes. Did 1 full mag dump with each magazine and the slide did lock on both magazines. Shouldn't make a difference though I would think.

I thought maybe the ammunition (reloads) had something to do with it but fired some factory 124gr speer gold dots through it. Neither of the magazines locked back with the factory ammo.

When I manually rack the slide on an empty mag the slide locks solidly with both magazines. Besides wiping the factory grease off of it, I haven't cleaned the damn thing since I bought it, but 300 some rounds shouldn't be anything worth mentioning, or am I retarded? Anybody have any ideas?

Thank you,
Maarten

Re: Glock question

Take your unloaded Glock and assume your shooting position. Then, pay attention to your right thumb. Sometimes people try to index it on the slide release. I see it all the time. If you are doing this, it will not lock to the rear.

Not saying you are doing it, but I would make sure before I sent it off.

Re: Glock question

Double check your grip after you've fired several rounds through a mag and without changing anything before you look. I have seen many people inadvertently apply downward pressure on the slide lock while firing. This will prevent the slide lock from doing it's job once the last round is fired.

If you remove the slide from the frame and gently lift the slide lock it should snap back down into place. If it does take a look at the triangular shaped nub that protrudes toward the center of the magwell and make sure it doesn't appear to be bent out of shape. If both of these check ok look for anything out of the ordinary (grooves or areas where material may have been removed) on the magazine followers.

Edit: Yeah, what those guys said, lol

Re: Glock question

Did anyone mention thumbing the slide release by accident?

Thanks, guess I shoulda looked at the retarded monkey behind the trigger first.
