So I get email notifications of threads I've posted in.

Gmail now tells me snipershide.com is a suspicious site and asks if I want to proceed every time I click on the link to take me to the site.

Fucking Google...

it might be chrome and not gmail.

This is from users getting email notifications, and rather than unsubscribing from the emailed notifications, they mark them as spam. Once gmail gets several of these notifications, they start flagging the domain as spam.

Add the email address to your address book and that should clear up the notifications.
