Gun Maker Smith & Wesson to Move Headquarters to Tennessee -- Update
Gun maker Smith & Wesson Brands Inc.(SWBI) is moving its corporate headquarters from Massachusetts to Tennessee, joining other firearms manufacturers that have moved from the mid-Atlantic and Northeast to Southern states with less restrictive gun laws.

The company will invest more than $125 million to relocate its headquarters and some operations from Springfield, Mass., where it has been based for generations, to Blount County, Tenn., near Knoxville. It will create 750 jobs in the area, according to the Tennessee Department of Economic & Community Development.

The lower cost of living was a factor in the move, Chief Executive Mark Smith said in a statement. He thanked Republican Gov. Bill Lee and the GOP-dominated legislature "for their unwavering support of the Second Amendment and for creating a welcoming, business-friendly environment."

The company didn't respond to emails seeking further comment.

Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno said in a statement the city will be losing 550 jobs, which he described as devastating news for the families involved. City officials would work with the company to try to retain about 1,000 remaining jobs, he said.

The company will keep some production in Springfield, according to a person familiar with the move.

Horace Smith and Daniel Wesson founded their company in the 1850s in New England. Smith & Wesson, which eventually was based in Springfield, has made some of the most well-known firearms in American history, including the Smith & Wesson Model 29, known as the .44 Magnum. The company has supplied firearms and other equipment to the military and numerous police departments.

Smith & Wesson plans to break ground on the new headquarters by the end of the year.

The company's announcement comes after a period of record gun sales in the U.S. during the Covid-19 pandemic, widespread civil unrest in 2020 and a surge in violence in many cities.

Good for them. Mayor Domenic Sarno should look at his parties policies if he wants to see devastating.

I own some of their stock, happy to see the move. (and stock price should be higher dammit!). Piss on Mass.

NH
FL
AK
MT
WY

I’d say TX, but’s it’s basically the Middle East of the US 😂

Will be a good move as long as they leave the workers there and don't bring any with them.

Wonder what the demographic is for their workers

probably not too liberal, but lots of right leaning statists, I remember hearing that state was filled with statist snitches

It's possible that they may not be too liberal , but why take a chance . They can lie in the bed they made.

Bad move for the workers in Massachusetts, bad move for the union (I'm assuming any labor in Mass. is union). Sympathy for the workers, fuck the union.
Huge good move for S&W, to bail from a state that wants to bleed every tax dollar they can from you while at the same time not wanting ANYTHING you make in their state.
Bravo, S&W.

Well, it's bad news for the workers/families affected by job loss. That city already has enough problems with a depressed economy, crime and drugs, so this won't help.

Good for S&W though, why stick around in a city and state that don't want you.

They're keeping some manufacturing/production (actually a majority of the current workforce), but I'm guessing eventually that will go to.

Just means more of a burden on the state system for the other residents... which means more will vote D to get more handouts.

The socialist machine is working as designed.

What better way to get out of a depressed area and follow your employer to a location that is better all around for a family.

S&W is offering a relocation pay bonus AND TN taxes are lower its close to net 10% increase in pay.

Only things in Spfld to miss are the Armory and Indian MC museum (if it still exists).

And the Student Prince German Restaurant. Largest stein collection in the US. Great Dunkelbier!
I could use a dunkel right now (y)

Is that relo package for everyone, or just the executives and management?

Lets both read this.....

There was a BBQ place I went to there after visiting the armory that was good.....no idea on name.

Really can't blame S&W, still I find myself a little sad as one of our original states pushes out one of our original companies. They'll be way better off in TN.

I'm scratching my head a little here on your post, how is it that NH is even on this list? And how is that superior to moving to TN? I realize relative to the east coast NH isn't bad, definitely a step up from MA, but it's still a purple, blue leaning state.

Move with them and get assistance to do that or stay and get an enhanced severance package. If I was an employee I’d be going to TN for a vacation in the area to check it out. Of course most wont and they’ll piss and moan and stay in CT.

More gun manufacturers need to leave the east coast commie states and stop selling their products to the .gov and LE. Put the screws to them. If the citizens can’t own them neither should the King’s men.

Seriously?

They take that live free or die shit seriously

Shall issue, constitutional carry, not dumb gun “laws” limiting standard cap mags or whatever a “assault weapon” is.

No forced product buying, ie no insurance laws, lets adults make their own choices

No nanny state seat belt laws, again you’re grown make your own choice

The states not run by a bunch of religious extremists like some of the southern states, if I wanted religious law I’d move to the fucking Middle East

beautiful country side with seasons.

Prices arnt super crazy.

People are generally pretty live and let live and stay in their own lane.

Interesting, I did not know all of that about NH, appreciate the info, in some of those respects it's more libertarian than WY. But now I'm really curious, given all of that, why do the people of NH vote for the dem presidential candidate? At least ever since Bush won in 2000.

The Old Man on the Mountain jumped to his death when he realized liberals were ruining the state.

Massholes have watered down that flinty granite yankee ideology.

Sadly many liberals are like a children who shat their bed, and instead of cleaning up their mess, just tries to get in your bed.

Also some states like AK go dem to republican back and forth, which is good, personally I could care less what party someone is in, I just look at their history and base judgements on what they’ll do in the future off that. Voting on party lines is silly and smooth brain, though I do mostly end up voting R
