Re: good parenting

I think listening to what the boy says shows exactly why a good part of the country is going down hill fast. His total lack of any idea of morals or consequences explains why him and his friends will probably either be dead or have been to jail before they can make it to 30.

The grandmother shows the problem with parenting these days, she knows what should be done, she should give him a beating of his life that he will remember forever, but she's afraid to because she would get in trouble for it, so instead of spending a week or two with a rear end that hurts everytime he moves, he'll probably wind up spending years in jail before long.

The cops just bring him back home as there is not much else they can do, they should have locked him up for at least a night to give him an idea of where he will be spending a lot of time in the near future.

No Father figure seems to be around anywhere.

The kid's idea of what his punishment might be is OMG, no video games for a whole weekend!

The chilling part is where the kid says he wanted to go do bad things because it was fun and then when asked if he knew he could have killed people running into cars like that, he said yes he was having fun being bad.

Wonder if they still have this program. Sounds like this kid needs to see the other side of being/doing "hoodrat" things.

I remember my dad grabbing the first available switch off the closest tree when I had crossed the line. It only took one time and the line was well defined. "Spare the rod and spoil the child"...

Re: good parenting

Where Im from, even teachers were allowed to hit students on their hands when they were out of line in school and guess what, there were no kids out of line in school! Thats whats wrong with the paranting in the US, you are pretty much limited to grounding the child. God forbid you spank them, you are called a bad parent and have to deal with child services. Long gone (and missed) are the days where you could take your child over your knees and spank the shit out of them for crossing the line.

Re: good parenting

^ Hell I remember being bent over and paddled in school and then again when I got home, for doing dumb shit in school(brought some Playboy's inside a military diving manual,i.d'd me pretty quick in a small school). My Dad kept a 3' oak paddle on the living-room wall, as a constant reminder NOT to screw up. I remember when he made it, he had me apply the stain and wrap the handle. Remember the last time he used it too. At 15 I took his Lincoln for a joy ride, took 3 licks and stood up, not taking anymore. Then followed a couple well placed shots to the nose, and a strong understanding that he wasn't screwin' around. As said above "spare the rod..." The reason the youth of this country act the way they do is because the gov't has neutered the parents and their ability to discipline their children. And we all pay the bill housing these criminals.

Re: good parenting

The other thing that is screwed up these days is when someone does something outrageous, they get their 15 minutes of fame for it. Do a search on YouTube for Latarian Milton. He has a bunch of videos up including one where he went to Comedy Central to appear. Scarlet letters just don't exist anymore. Societies expectations are just so low.
