So i have a local range thats on public land that is pretty heavily used. A while back a local club built nice concrete shooting benches. It only took a few months for them to get shot to shit and destroyed by the masses.

I like using this range but its normally a mess. I have access to steel for next to nothing. So I'm considering welding up some targets for pistol range, and various rifle ranges. They would be one piece welded setups with 4 pieces of large rebar hammered 2-3 feet into the ground.

Thought it'd be nice but not sure if it's worth it?

My other dumb idea is putting 2 feet of sand under the angled backers to I can sift out range lead later on. Little for them and little for me.

Human nature teaches people that when they show up to a dump it’s ok to treat it as such and add to the mess. I’ve discovered that after public areas have been cleaned up, they have more of a tendency to stay that way. If all us good guys picked up after the brainless ones, the shooting areas would be more likely to stay in better condition. The Boy Scout motto is “Do a Good Turn Daily”. :)

They shoot the shooting benches up? The benches they are supposed to be shooting off of?

Wow, that’s a new one to me. Sheesh

Keep in mind that the cheapest surplus 7.62x39 and M855 really do a number on steel, and that is what is often used on such ranges.
