Hi guys, I used to have access to a good cleaner for ultrasonic cleaning metal gun parts but now I need a new source. I have a high capacity heated ultrasonic/degass cleaner and would like to do the action from my 10/22 and some AR parts without worrying about the dreaded Fe2O3 (rust).

Thanks for any input!

Try parts cleaning solvent.
We use Rule 66 (also known as Stodard solvent) in the cleaning tank. Some of us have been known to set up ultrasonic with fresh juice for injectors or gun parts.
After they are warm and clean, just blow with air to remove excess. Then just spray some type of oil. (WD-40, Kroil, Light mold spray) Blow off again, and gtg.

Also use some water based cleaners, but thet take a little more attention than just having access too.

That is what I am looking for some water based cleaner that I can simply dilute into the tank. I worked as a machinist for 6 years up until last month and cleaned a ton of parts and always used some kind of green water based cleaner (I think it was called AquaChem) that was awesome in preventing rust and also did a good job cleaning. I need to find something that works good that I could get at say walmart or home depot or some place like that.

Can be bought by the spray bottle, or in a concentrate.
You're right, it works great.
Neverheard of aqua chem. May have to check it out.
Thanks, now ya got me thinking. </div></div>

I got it in plastic 55 gal barrels but was green and didn't have any remarkable smell. The company is drunk on the kool-aid and went hyper-"green" in the environmental sense so I'm sure whatever it was was going to fall within that realm but it did work very well.

Do you think simple green would work OK on gun parts?

Re: Good soap for parts cleaning in ultrasonic

Simple Green is what a lot of people are using and recommend. Its more skin friendly than most of the solvents that we like to equate with gun cleaning..

Re: Good soap for parts cleaning in ultrasonic

Haven't tried it in an ultrasonic yet.
Not to stray too far, but simple green for cleaning cases took quite a while to get the insides clean.(ultrasonic)
Isso seemed to be too agressive on the clean areas.(following directions)
Bichwood case concentrate will remove lube, but still needs to be tumbled after.
Thinking about trying in ultra after basic sizing and dry tumbling to remove lube.(cheaper and easier.)

Safety solvent will get the gunk out of hard to reach places.
Wd-40 and an air hose makes look good as new.

I know on one ultrasonic supplier who sold relabled uncented Joy as their best cleaner. Ass said before Simple Green works great too.

While not cheap, the M-Pro7 cleaning solution (its a non-water based detergent) is the absolute best that I've used in my U/S dunk tanks. I buy a few gallons and simply leave it in the tank to clean anything that needs it. It strips oil, grease, and gunk easily and works well for removing carbon build up. It is supposedly non-toxic and easy to work with on your hands. So foul solvent smell either.

I've tried a whole host of things including Simple Green, water with Dawn, and other detergents like Citranox solutions. I've pretty much settled on M-Pro7 now for all parts cleaning and Citranox for all brass cleaning.

All the major online stores have it including MidwayUSA and Brownells.

Cool, thanks guys! Looks like, I'll give joy a try along with citranox from midway. I'll report back with results!
