Gortex Shell Pants Recommendation

Re: Gortex Shell Pants Recommendation

The Arcteryx Beta are awesome. I was upset at myself for paying that much for a pair of pants, but, after putting them to the test, its worth it.
Theyre the most expensive pants in my closet, by about 300%

Re: Gortex Shell Pants Recommendation

I got my ECWCS (gen 1) for $26 shipped about a week ago. for the price of the Arcteryx, I'd rather get 12 pair of ECWCS.

Re: Gortex Shell Pants Recommendation

Thanks guys for the info.

LoneWolf,
I have a ECWCS Parka top for the Marines I think, and like it very much. If I can find a similar bottom I would be happy. I remember I got it at US Elite Gear. It'a great shell. It's very similar to the Gen II Gortex but not as bulky.
Let me ask you I found the trouser but they're all camo and I would prefer a solid color. Any ideas where I can find them. My link to the jacket is no longer good.

The Beta looks great but I really dont want to drop that coin for a pair of pants.

I'll check out the Gen1 pants too.

Again thanks guys.

Actually we're comparing dollars to cents. Having some saves a lot. Unless your Sphinx pants are going to drive your Farrari and save your life, that's ridiculous, especially when the OP already said "The Beta looks great but I really dont want to drop that coin for a pair of pants. "

Going with ECWCS pants will not let you down. I am thinking of dropping coin on GenII parka if I ever could possibly need one here in KY since all my clothing is at the house in Alaska for my sons to use.

You would not be happy with Arcteryx, trust me.

I've seen them in Coyote, but they're hard to find and a bit more spendy. Tru-Spec is my personal choice for ECWCS. A bit more spendy than the Gen1 GI style though. </div></div>

Thanks for the links, these look great.
What materials are they made out of, and are they pretty durable in terms of snags/rips?
Also, do they run fairly true to the size chart shown?

I have the older GI Gen I's because these were a bit out of my budget at the time. Cousin wears the Tru-Spec's in Multicam and I find them to be about the same in durability, but the TruSpec has a better fit, feel and movement.
I believe the TruSpec is the same base material as the GI ECWCS with a DINTEX membrane instead of Gore-Tex, I believe it is more flexable and resistant to rips than Gore from what I hear, but I have no torture tests to reference.

As for size, you should be good to go, I wear Large Long and I'm usually about 34x34 but these will give you plenty of length and they have a draw string for the waist.

Awesome, thank you for the great info. I'm typically a 34x34 as well so I ordered the large long in OD from the link you provided. I will report back how they look when I receive them.

I never thought about this.....I went with the ones for $399, I need to call and claim at least a hand job.....

Re: Gortex Shell Pants Recommendation

Hey guys,
Really good info, thanks.

I would agree the Arc's look great and are great gear but those prices are ridiculous. I'm sure there's a place for them but not in my closet and for what I need them for.

Those TruSpec look likes its exactly what I was looking for.

Re: Gortex Shell Pants Recommendation

For $750, $499, or even $399; I think I can man up and make a pair of ECWCS pants work. At some point you have to ask yourself if you are too big of a panzy that you are willing to spend $750 to avoid being cold and wet.

never thought of it that way, but your right...if i find it necessary to spend even $400 on a pair of pants to keep warm and dry...its time to start staying home and WATCHING that sort of activity on TV.

I think sometimes we forget about where we come from, and that we use to do so much with so little. This is way before my time, but their was a time when a shooter stuffed a pack of crackers in one cargo pocket, and some extra rounds in the other; and that was all they needed for an op. Times have changed and today much more equipment is required, but a $400.00 pair of pants...really? That wouldn't leave you any room for your purse.
