Cav Officer 2-7th in GW 1, good unit, #1 in Class at the point. Ranger tabbed I believe, CIA.

McMaster (Army)
Cav Officer (He is a Mega Badass Killer) GW1, GW 2 same thing plus demonstrated Counter Insurgency skills in urban environment. warrior scholar (whatever the fk that is) like Mattis.

MARINES

Kelly (USMC)

Gets points for going through OCS and still making General. Little or no combat experience as a young NCO or Officer, plenty in GW2 as a General, seems to have done well and definitely knows how to talk bigly shit like all Marines.

Mattis (USMC)

Spends time in foxholes with troops and bakes cookies, the troops (or whatever you guys call the enlisted) seem to like him a lot. he is an intellectual. He bombed the shit out of a wedding party 80 miles out in the middle of the desert and took credit for it, good and bad, as he should have. aside from his love affair with Greek books and shit and being in the Navy almost I kind of like this guy.

I was really pleased with the appointment of General Mattis as SecDef.
im sure he wasn't the only commander to spend 2 weeks driving across the country visiting the families of Marines KIA under his command, but that's leadership.
I never served under him, but would have been damn proud to.
