Graffunder

Re: Graffunder

A lock smith company in Great Falls, Mt only carried Graffunder and said it was one of the best safes made. I would have got one if they were not so expensive and I remember it looking and feeling very heavy duty. The seems on the doors are tight tolerance so it would be almost impossible to work a crowbar in between and they had really nice paint jobs...

Re: Graffunder

I seem to recall they are now owned by Sage Safe Company which is located in Washington State.
Several years back at a Sportsman Expo i had the opportunity to talk to Urlich and his son about their safes, impressive workmanship and attention to detail.
Price while more than i could afford at the time was within reason for the craftsmanship they employed.
They were made in Central Oregon back then.

Re: Graffunder

Damn good safes. I have one thats close to 20 years old +/- and it still closes like a bank vault no play what so ever.
Michael N gave good info Ralph can help plus he's a nice guy.

Re: Graffunder

Another contender with Graffunder is Brown Safe.

http://www.brownsafe.com/

I recently bought one of their "C" rated, double door, fire safes. 6100lbs and a little over $10k delivered. Expensive yet, but as most people here have two rifles with a combined value in excess of $10k it isn't that much to spend.

Re: Graffunder

Graffunder:
<ul style="list-style-type: disc">[*]<span style="font-weight: bold">Pros</span> - great and secure safe.[*]<span style="font-weight: bold">Cons</span> - costs much more than other safes, and while really better - it's still not unbreakable. I.e. if somebody really wants your stuff and really knows how to deal with safes - Graffunder will fall as well, though requiring the cracker to spend more time.[/list]
So the question is whether this additional cracker delay that safes like Graffunder (and Brown?) provide is worth for you the extra money you'd spend for it. The answer should be factored into your overall security approach: intrusion detection, (automatic?) call to your police (or the monitoring station that should call police), time of reaction/arrival, etc. Perhaps you don't need such a delay (and a cheaper one would work as well for your needs), or perhaps it still isn't good enough...?

Re: Graffunder

bdubb,

Just saw this pop up on a Google alert. Graffunder makes a very high quality safe, we are often compared to them when clients are looking for a secure, high-end weapons safe.

All our safes start with burglary protection in mind and are built with a solid steel construction. Fire protection can be added as an option and incorporates 2" of a high PSI concrete amalgamate substance in the door and 2.5" in the body. This provides a fire rating of 90 minutes at 1,700 degrees, however we've seen our safes last much longer in real world situations (http://www.brownsafe.com/categories/faq/FireTestimonialIntro.htm).

The difference between our safes and theirs is the construction of the door and body with regards to fire protection. On our safes, the solid steel construction is located on the interior of the safe (B - M rating with a minimum 1/2" A36 plate up to full ballistic armor) and the concrete amalgamate on the exterior of the solid steel construction. We feel this provides superior fire protection as steel is a conduit of heat so concrete on the exterior prevents penetration of heat into the safe. It also provides additional burglary protection as one would have to remove all the concrete before attempting to penetrate the solid steel construction of the safe.

Our safe buying guide explains all this information in further detail and is a great tool to reference when purchasing a safe: http://www.brownsafe.com/categories/faq/faq.htm

Re: Graffunder

Looks like the natives burned another one down.
That sux to fly over and see your place has been burnt, and holes shot in everything. Not saying that's what happened there, just I've seen that before
