Hi everyone! Can any of you recommend a ballistic calculator that works really well? With all the ballistic calculators I have used, they tend to get you around the target, but then it takes a few more shots to get right on target. Can any of you recommend a "perfect" ballistic calculator where it gets you on target with the first shot almost every time?

Nothing is perfect. A ballistic calculator is nothing but a tool that is relliant on your ability to enter correct data.

Most ballistic calculators will get you pretty close without truing your velocity or BC.

Ballistic Arc served me really well for a few year. I use a kestrel elite now, but really is just a convenience thing. A Weatherflow wind meter and geoballistics(ballistic arc) will do the same thing. You more than likely will still need to tweak the bc or muzzle velocity to true everything up. Paint a waterline(black or orange stripe) in the middle of your freshly painted white target @ a distance just inside subsonic, or the farthest you have available. I true mine up at 1040 yards. Then do the same thing at around 500 to verify your elevation is on there also.

Hitting the target isn't good enough. The center of your group needs to be on the waterline. If your dope is off out past 600-700 but dead on inside that tweak your bc number to line it up. If it is off inside 700 I would adjust mv.

This is how I do it, some people may do it differently.

Once you true your software, it will be right the first shot every time.

If you’re looking for software that gets you on target perfectly the first time you use it for a rifle or round.....that’s only coincidental when it happens.

If that’s what you’re looking for, your understanding of ballistic software is flawed. That’s not how it works.
