Not the easiest hobby to get into in this state. Been shooting now for about three years. It was one of my wife's and my first dates. Finally we decided it'd be fun to own our own guns and go shooting more often. Wife has a Beretta M9A1 and loves it. I doubt she'll get any other guns though.

I, on the other hand, can't take any hobby casually. Started with a S&W M&P 15-22, picked up a Walther P22 Target. Then I decided I wanted to poke targets out a little further and got a Ruger American Ranch in 5.56. Slapped an obnoxious muzzlebrake on it. It's an amazingly accurate rifle OOB. With handloads, I can shoot sub-MOA at 100 yards no problem. Only problem is that short 16" barrel is clearly robbing me of some velocity but for the price, you can't ask for much more.

Well, as everyone has said, I'd itch for bigger calibers. I picked up a Thompson Center LRR in 6.5 CM. I love everything about this rifle. Bolt action is buttery smooth. Accuracy is absurd. It's just amazing.

Biggest issue I have is finding places to shoot long distance. My home range has a 100 yard indoor rifle range. It's perfect for zeroing my rifles without worrying about wind. Great just just practicing technique. But I need to shoot further. Theres a public range an hour or so away with a 200 yard outdoor range. Other than that, theres a 300 yard private range and a 500 yard private range that isn't accepting new members.

Reloading has been so satisfying. I love doing it, just tough as I don't get to shoot outdoors much and therefore can't chrono my rounds as often as I'd like.

I'm looking forward to learning from everyone here. Looks like the right place to learn.

Welcome! As a fellow NJ resident I feel your pain. Ft. Dix is where I end up shooting precision the most (just use smaller targets or smaller calibers). I periodically head out about 3 hours down 78 to Lewisburg which has a 1000 yard range available but haven't been there in a bit. You should look into the Mason Dixon Precision Rifle series.

Range 14 is pretty solid. That's the outdoor 200 yard range I use to shoot outdoors and use my chrono.

I'll definitely look into your suggestions.

Or you can do what i did ... i lived in Hoboken, NJ and shooting wasnt even remotely a thought of being a hobby. I moved to Vegas and now i got over 1,000 yds to shoot within 10 mins from home, as well as a great community of PRS shooters here (y)

Welcome from Las Vegas!

Welcome to the Hide from Middle Georgia. Great to see you've already got folks helping you out. And the little Rugers are great inexpensive shooters. Those can be dialed in for close to mid range shooting if need be. And the Thompson can be all you need for the forseeable future. Root around in the different forums. You'll be amazed at the plethora of subjects and the depth of same. We're glad to have another brother from the socialist states of the Eastern Seaboard.
