Grendel Buffer question..

My recently built Grendel is chewing up my brass (rims mainly) pretty nicely. After reading a bit, I am going to change out the buffer to something heavier. I am using a Magpul PRS stock which uses a standard A2 buffer and spring. Almost all of the heavier buffers are carbine sized. Can I still use them or are there specific heavy A2 sized buffers?

I also have an AAC M4-2000 on the way. Knowing this, what buffer would be best? H2/H3?

Thanks

Matt

Re: Grendel Buffer question..

What ammo are you using? Your own reloads?
I'm using a standard A2 buffer and spring w/o issues using the 123gr factory loaded Hornady Amaxs.
Also, what length gas system are you running?

Re: Grendel Buffer question..

Im am reloading my own.. mostly 123 amax's over BL-C(2). It is an 18 inch barrel with a mid length gas system. It just seems the rims of my brass are getting beaten up a bit (still reloadable). I am afraid with the supressor, this will be magnified... Likely gonna order an H3 weighted buffer and see how she does..

Re: Grendel Buffer question..

The buffer length has to stay the same, you can't swap them without changing out the buffer tube.

You can easily add weight to a standard A2 buffer by pushing out the roll pin and swapping in some heavier weights for the aluminum spacer inside.

Re: Grendel Buffer question..

Thanks. I ended up ordering a adjustable gas block as a possible solution, but will take apart my A2 buffer and see what I can do there. Your input is greatly appreciated.

Re: Grendel Buffer question..

The AGB sounds like the proper solution anyway. Can't say for sure w/o looking at the gun, but 75% are over gassed.

People usually use the heavier buffers/weights for a bandaid to fix the over gassed condition.

The heavier buffers DO have a place, but not without proper diagnosis.

Re: Grendel Buffer question..

It seems to depend on who you talk to. I spoke with alot of different guys on different forums and the most common answer was the adjustable gas block was not needed. I don't know, I'm running a PRI low pro block and a standard carbine buffer. I'm not seeing any chewing of the brass, however, it does hit the deflector most all the time. The brass seems no worse for wear from this though.

I would think that the adjustable gas block would give you an option anyways. Also note that I'm running an 18" Sabre barrel with midlength gas system.
