Hey guys nearing completion on my AR-10 DMRish build. For fun, for LR, for end of the world zombie scenarios, etc.

I have a Griffin suppressor so I'd be looking at a Griffin taper mount muzzle device.

My instinct wants to put their three-prong flash hider on it because it looks so damn cool, My gut says to put their paladin dual Port muzzle brake on it because it would probably help me spot my own shots the best and the suppressor could handle taming the flash, and my brain says I should probably get the best of both worlds and put on their ugly flash comp.

Of course they have a bunch of others as well. What would you guys recommend for being the best muzzle device for this build?

Staying in the scope and spotting my own shots would be a huge priority, as little muzzle flash as possible would be a secondary.

Thanks guys

Don’t kid yourself, you’re going to end up with a whole box of adapters and mounts- just like the rest of us. Just buy the flash hider and the brake and the flash comp now.

Ok, real talk. For my money, I don’t have a use for a flash hider, so it’s brakes for me.

I use a Paladin 2 port on my 300wm, a single port on my ar10, and the short and long flash hiders on various 5.56. Wife's rig has the flashcomp (hammer-comp with tips). That one is neat, but its long AF inside the can. Almost .25 longer inside IIRC.

Good system though, I've been really happy

I run all Griffin taper mounts. The type of muzzle device only matters if you are shooting unsupressed.

If you are going back and forth between suppressed and not, just pick the one you like best.

Once the can is on it will not matter.

(FYI I can't remember the last time I shot any rifle without a suppressor)

Flash hiders and forward compensators will add accelerated wear to the suppressor baffle stack.

But with a warrantied can, I guess it probably doesn't matter. Cheaper to replace a brake than a baffle though 🤷‍♂️

Yes, to a degree but it would require a very high round count. Firing schedule matters as well.

I have the mini brakes on mine but honestly my volume of fire nor rate of fire is enough to realize any potential gain from erosion just because I don't shoot enough.

Truthful yes, realistic (for me) not so much.

I agree 100%, and was not discounting anything you said.

Just trying to share things when i can; that while trivial, and likely menial, took me a while to figure out and are often overlooked.

Firing cadence and host mean a lot

Whatever you decide on, get it from a trusted 3rd party vendor, ordering off of the griffin site pretty much guarantees that you'll be stuck with whatever piece of shit they send you even if the fuck-up is entirely on them.

This is one of those "YMMV" things.

My experience has been completely opposite: from muzzle devices to handguards; and they were the first vendor in a while to send me some friggin stickers 🤷‍♂️

They have always gone above and beyond for me. Of course no company is totally perfect but my experience is overwhelmingly positive.

I’m using the GA Taper Mount on several rifles, with my three suppressors. The system has been excellent, in every regard.

I started with the flash hider and believe that was the less good choice. The flash hider works by directing the unspent powder and associated gases outward with wide dispersion, to limit visible signature. In a suppressor, that’s not happening. Instead, you’re just smashing the entire first baffle with all of that. Before I bought my AB Suppressors, I spent some time on the phone with one of their staff. He explained that the barrel length restrictions and firing rate rating were based largely on what the first baffle could handle with direct thread.

Getting a mount with “sacrificial baffles” is the best suppressor mount option, in my opinion. The more stuff the gases and unburnt powder hits before hitting the first suppressor baffle, the better for suppressor life and sound suppression effectiveness.

I had never needed their CS prior to this last time and overall, had been happy with their quality and presentation. But this last time where I got sent an obviously-used item (which was also the incorrect variation) sold to me as new, and then getting ghosted in email and phone, they can fuck right off.

Here is a picture of one of my suppressors that has only been on my GA Taper Mount closed-tine flash hiders. As you can see, there are areas the powder is not directly hitting the wall in the initial/blast chamber. This is where the tines are. Almost all of the gasses are being pushed directly forward or at a forward angle. A “sacrificial baffle” will take the hottest and most dangerous of these gases, deflecting them allowing them to cool and slow down a bit, before continuing forward.

I don't know the details of the specific situation but something doesn't add up. That said a little bit of grace goes a long way.

Every company has new employees that need to be trained. Every now and then they might have a bad employee.

Forest and trees applies.

Dude, they flat-out didn't respond to multiple requests for an RMA.
