I mentioned this a while back, but it's buried somewhere in the 55 pages of the 5-20x SS group buy thread. Since I just made some new bands for my 5-20x SS and haven't seen anyone else bring this up, I decided to take a couple of pictures and make a thread on the matter.
As much as I love both of my SS scopes, about the only gripe I have is with the profile of the power ring (on both the 3-9x and the 5-20x) and the stiffness/sharp edges of the parallax knob on the 5-20x; making them both a little difficult to manipulate, especially when it's cold. So I came up with a quick, easy, and cheap solution to provide a little more grip, making it much easier to operate both a lot quicker.
All I did was cut strips of a mountain bike tire tube to the desired width and stacked 'em two high on each piece. Road-bike tubes would probably work even better since they'd be tighter, but MTB tubes are what I had on hand and they've worked great on the 3-9x so far.
Now, thanks to a little friction-induced mechanical advantage, I can roll the power ring with just my index finger and can easily roll the parallax knob through it's entire range with the twist of two fingers.
Hope it helps.
