GsG9 and other serious rare snipers for sale on Gunbroker.

some of those rifles are some of the finest bolt actions out there. That SSG2000 or the Mauser 83 with the rear locking lugs....... Better than almost anything on the common American market. Rifls like that Erma sr-100 once in a life time buy.

Rear locking lug actions are shorter and faster, every time! The bullet does not have to have to pass over the locking channels of a forward lug action so the round reaches the chamber faster. One of the fastest operating competion actions is the Schultz and Larsen model 54, rear locking lug all day baby! and it is a very incorrect assumption that Rear locking lug actions are weaker, when almost every rear lug action is actually beefeyer. Schultz and Larsen rear lug actions are so strong in fact that Weatherby used to use Schultz and Larsen actions for all there magnum rifles before they made their own actions. Im not saying that Rear lug actions are the very best but that many people are dumb to the many advantages they offer.

I can see where you are coming from considering competitions. One of the big things, myths if you will, is that rear locking lugs have just that tiny more flex in them than front locking lugs. Therefore less accurate. This may be true in the ultimate accuracy game of benchrest, where a few thousandths separate groups, but for speed/accuracy I can see where the rear locking lugs would be beneficial. One might think of the record set with a Lee Enfield (rear locking lugs) shooting some 39 hits in one minute @ 300 m.

Much like the Stang shooting in Norway, this kind of shooting competition is very relevant to actual combat shooting.

I miss my Sauer 200TR with the 308 & 22lr, it was a fantastic rifle! Absolutely one of the best I have ever owned, but $8000 WTF!!

this was mine

Thats the thing that Schultz and Larsen m54 is a ultra heavy target rifle, The receiver is way big compared to most front lug. My point is that they build these rifles to work in their layout, Im sure they shoot just as accurate Front or rear. That Sauer 200tr is Very Nice!

About the rear lugs. Remember the old Rem. 788’s? The budget rifle that outshot the 700’s and was dropped due to doing so?
They had rear lugs, bad triggers and some poor quality wood in the stock. (Birch?)

All they did was shoot better than most other rifles. Oh, they had a DBM before it was popular.

Check out this seller he has rare rare rare stuff...... Erma sr-100, ssg 2000, Mauser model 83, Keppeler 300 in. This stuff is expensive but so rare that you rarely ever see it for sale....

Lots of interesting stuff. Thanks for sharing

To play devil's advocate, the Sauers AFAIK are front locking, and seem to dominate the speed shooting scene in Europe..

Obviously Franz Albrecht is better than 99% of shooters and his skill is the main reason he can shoot so fast, though the rifle does play a part..
