Yep, and there was another story today about 15 more just north in Reynosa. The hiway from Reynosa to Ciudad Victoria is called the 'Highway of Death and its recommended to travel i only in convoys led by the police. shit, I was intending to retire to Oaxaca by now.
Official backstory on the employers of these benevolent citizens: created by Mencho Oseguera ~2010 right after Sinaloa capo Nacho Coronel gets his bullet from the Marines. Originally named "Los Matazetas"(Zeta killers), for the purpose of being Chapo Guzman's answer to the notorious paramilitary terrorist group.

At this point it really has very little to do with drugs. The Cartels have expanded way beyond that. Its about control of territory and all that implies.
I think the gov't corruption has far more to do with their power than any other single component, but its a big nasty mix of illegality and violence and all the bad shit..

Right now, my only objection to the legalization of weed by states is that it creates confusion and two sets of laws. One federal, one state. And you can't have two sets of laws...
If our current admin were smart (and I think they are) they would take marijuana off federal controls and make it a state's rights issue. Tax the shit out of it... I mean, the taxation vehicle is already on the books. Marjiuana is controlled, not banned. Legal with a federal tax stamp. That the feds won't issue. If they would start issuing those stamps... and use the revenue to fight meth, opoids and coca. Well Hallelujah! Because what we have been doing for 90 years, ain't working. Reefer Madness, indeed.
If Trump's control policy created a new 21st Amendment, so to speak.. it would solve a lot of problems!
Well... it would create a Doritos shortage. But, hey, crunch all you want. They'll make more.

Arturo Beltran Leyva - senior member of Sinaloa Cartel that branched off and eventually got smoked by Marines, apparently was passing off $100,000(US dollars) per month to each gov't officlal and military brass that he had on the payroll... atleast according to his ex-bodyguard. There was apparently SEVERAL officials on the take in numerous states. The Mexican Army is basically assigned "regions" around their bases which theyre responsible for, so it creates a situation where not only are the soldiers constantly in one area for lengthy amounts of time/prone to being influenced by the narcos of the area..but also the big narcos with operations all over obviously have to pay off every commanding officer of each region theyre running dope through. So the Army doesnt get used for big stuff anymore. The Mexican Marines are the ones really taking the fight to the shitheads, and theyre badass. Trained by us and always a couple US agents on each raid they get sent on. There was apparently some tier 1 dudes on the ground for the Chapo capture.
Perhaps. But you can keep the taxes low enough to be competitive... make sure the quality is there.... it's not filled with lead powder, etc.
It's gotta be better than what we're doing now.
A few years ago, the chief here in town asked if we had a drug problem. His answer was "Nope, you can get them anywhere."
PJ O'Rourke, who has a knack for distilling things down to their essence, once said that "If all intoxicants were illegal, a certain percentage of the population would go out on their front lawns and spin around until they got dizzy and fell down all day...." He'es right. Noone really gives a sh** what people put in themselves. They care about the crime that goes along with drugs (or prohibition Booze, for that matter.) So regulate and deal with it.
The last 50 years of control policy have failed miserably. Insanity is continuing to do the same thing again and again... while expecting a different result.
For your viewing pleasure, BTW. I recommend everyone who is a 2a supporter watch the first episode, BTW. Because this is the playbook for banning firearms in the USA. It worked once. It will work again. Just took them 100 years. And the left is right on schedule.

PS... not sure legalization is a great answer either.... we don't need a nation of Soma-addicts... who will always vote for the government entity that gives them their Soma.... But seems that State Liquor stores have not created a nation of leftist Zombies. So maybe my concerns there are unfounded.

Mostly, I feel that ALL things, drugs being just a thing,, be they alcohol, cannabis, cocaine, guns, cars that go from o - 100 in 3.3 secondsetc. should be legal. You have no more right to tell me what I can or cannot put into my body, anymore than you should have the right to tell me that I can or cant have a firearm. Or a fast car, Or a 264 oz slurppy.
If I kill myself, so be it, problem solved.
If I go out and do stupid stuff, arreat me, charge me, convict me, putme in prison. Problem deferred til later.
But my experience is that most people, left alone, will find a reasonable medium that works for them.

When Osiel Cardenas Guillen got to trial, they closed it to the public and wouldn't allow any media or anything. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the conditions imposed by Los Pinos in exchange for Chapo''s extradition was something similar. For one there's got to be connections between Pena Nieto/Osorio Chong and Arturo Beltran Leyva from back when ABL was running Toluca airport. I highly doubt you'll see any big fish be allowed to get caught from Chapo's potential testimony. No doubt he's gotta ton of dirt, but they wouldn't have allowed extradition if there were potential consequences. His sons ain't been touched yet, and atleast one got indicted back during Narco Polo... so maybe Chapo told Los Pinos he wouldnt say shit as long as his sons werent rounded up? I would almost bet $$$ thats the case, or something similar.
IMO best thing he could do for himself right now is shut his mouth and plead guilty. This would let him thumb his nose at all the snitches lined up and prevent their testimony, and possibly(?) appeal his sentence after its handed down while becoming king of his own little fiefdom in prison for standing tall and staying quiet. He apparently picked up counsel from Alfredo Beltran Leyva's lawyer, and John Gotti Jr's lawyer also looked to be trying to represent Guzman. Strange because US DOJ wouldnt guarantee the defense that they wouldnt go after any funds that Guzman pays his counsel with...?? I do hope he takes it to trial and drowns every politician along with him though.
Curious on your choice of 7mm sirhr? I dont know of any 7's in use with Mexican or US or Colombian forces..? Just wondering what spurred you to mention that cal, maybe you know something I dont? The Colombians and Mexican Marines are 100% killers and badasses trained by us, but Ive no clue what theyre using for equipment besides the typical AR's, some new(and old style) Galils in Colombia and Mx military, etc. Are they running 7 mags or something? I know Ive seen some AI's, M24's, and apparently Sakos in Colombian hands..?? Mexico OTOH dont seem to be real fond of standing up a serious sniper effort. Their guys are more focused on being door kickers from the pics/vids I seen.

No..at least that is the way it is in CA, CO and OR. Weed that you buy in the "legal store" is available at all price points. Weed that is sold outside the "legal" venue has actually dropped in price so that it is even a little bit cheaper than the legal option. Like all commodities; market demand sets the price.
This is, of course, what I am told. I have no firsthand knowledge of it
