I've been reading posts about gun control here and watching the news, gathering arguments on both sides, and I'm bewildered because the real underlying reason for the push on gun control hasn't been addressed.
I realize what I'm saying may come off as abrasive, but it's what I truly believe. It's not just Obama, it's the government who wants assault weapons out of civilian hands. The government is truly afraid of the fact that its citizens are armed with the same advanced small arms that the police and military are equipped with. I asked a former career highway patrol in my county who ran for Sherrif last year, if he were elected would he have a problem signing class 3 applications. He told me he wouldn't sign an application for anyone. When I asked him why he told me "I don't want to fight the public armed with the same weapons I'm equipped with." I believe this mindset goes all the way to the top.
The second amendment allows us protection from tyranny, its not just about hunter gatherer practice. They know we as civilians can not effectively combat tyranny with inferior means. The talk today is that the founding fathers didn't mean for us to arm ourselves with the arms of the present....which simply isn't true. We fought for our freedom with state of the art weapons for the time, and in most cases, superior to our enemy's. This undoubtedly should be the same today.
It's not about gun violence, it's about "control." I'm just a law abiding citizen who loves his country, and the freedom we deserve. I'm in NO way stating we should go to war, I'm just saying we must stand up for our rights.
