Going to use a live edge piece of walnut for a shelf/rack to hold some rifles.
    Something like this:

I need to attach some "cups" to hold the buttstocks in place. I could fashion something out of wood, but that might be too much wood. I could mortise into the shelf with a router, but I'd rather not. Something U-shaped like a cut welded horseshoe, of course that might tear up/scratch some of my nicer wood-stocked rifles and shotguns. Need to keep the rifle of the shelf and not twisting.

Any suggestions? The muzzle end on the wall is taken care of. It's in a secure area.

you might want to do some lexane/plexi.

very clear, can smooth and flame it so there are no edges.

might make the area look less bulky as well, keep the eyes on the firearms and wood rather then the cups

Aluminum bar stock is readily available at hardware or home improvement stores and is easily shaped.
Any material that you use can also be coated in plasti-dip if scratching is a concern. The stuff in an aerosol can has worked well for me in the past.
