Gun Safe - best bang for the $$...............

Re: Gun Safe - best bang for the $$...............

Not sure if they have Tractor Supply where you live, but they carry Cannon safes at the cheapest prices I have seen. Bought a 24-gun safe from them for $599. I like my Cannon, no problems at all.

Re: Gun Safe - best bang for the $$...............

Shop around and find a dealer locally that deals in scratch n' dent stuff as well. You would be surprised how many safes are out there that are brand spankin new you can get for $200-$400 less. When I was shopping for my first safe, the company I went with had some old stock clearance safes from 2 years ago and some safes that might have a small scratch in them from the fork lift rubbing against it. Safes like that cannot be sold as new, even if it's a tiny scratch so they mark it down and shove it in a dark corner.

I found a Winchester Silverado S37 (51 gun) safe with 1.5" bolts, 90 minute fire and 11 gauge steel for $1,400 even. I did some searching on the hide and all the advice pointed to "Shop for what you need and buy one or two sizes bigger" Damn glad I did because it's already filling up quickly.

Re: Gun Safe - best bang for the $$...............

I saw some great safes at my local gun store that were on clearance for pretty cheap. I bought the Winchester 51 gun (more like 13 gun) from Costco. 30 minute fire protection... not too bad. I would have liked more, but 30 minutes of fire protection is more than the rest of my valuables have. My safe is mainly just to keep my 3 and 5 year olds out.

Re: Gun Safe - best bang for the $$...............

They currently have a wait time, but I really like Zanotti safes. They are made in America and are modular. They come in six pieces that makes moving and set up a relative breeze compared to one piece heavy bulky safes. If you ever had to move a gun safe up or down a flight of stairs, you will understand my reference. Plus their customer service is outstanding. You can call them and have the owner of the company answer the phone and any of your questions. I had one of their locks jump a number in the combination sequence. Zanotti had a new combo to me in a very prompt manner. No hassle, no excuses, just fast shipping of a needed part. You should at least check out Zanotti safes.

+1 on the Zanotti. Love mine. Was close enough to drive and pick it up, paid with cash, and the owner knocked off a couple hundred.

The modular feature is what sold it for me. Needed to get into a basement without a walk out door. Hauled it down in pieces, assembled it,...... good to go.

I waited almost a year for mine, but it was well worth the wait.

You'll notice that Zanotti safes are not fire proofed, however all safes are fire resistant. I built a base for mine to set on to keep it 3" above the floor to protect it for awhile from water damage, should fire or flooding occur. For fire protection I mounted a fire sprinkler head above my safe.

Re: Gun Safe - best bang for the $$...............

My recommendation is Patriot Safe Company. Very nice safes at excellent prices. I own one and I'm planning on buying another. I like them a lot more than the Cannon or Liberty offerings.

cheers,

Re: Gun Safe - best bang for the $$...............

I am also interested in getting a safe and I researched some of the brands mentioned. Did you know Costco brand name safes are made in China. I was initially interested in a Liberty Fatboy Jr. but you have to so much extra to get in upgrades, for something that comes as standard equipment on a Patriot safe.. Just go to their site to check out their upgrades that are included, also you can get a discount if you served in the military.

Punter thanks for the info you sure get a lot more you money going with Patriot safes.
