Americans Purchase over 14,000,000 Guns in 2009

Make no mistake about it, despite the tough economic times, gun sales are still going strong. In 2009, Americans purchased over 14,000,000 firearms, based on NICS Background Check statistics from the FBI. The FBI logged 14,033,824 NICS checks in 2009, a 10% rise from the 12,709,023 checks in 2008.

The raw number of NICS checks may actually under-count the total number of guns sold last year. This is because when a buyer purchases multiple firearms at the same time, a single NICS check can apply to multiple sales.

"NICS check can apply to multiple sales" Really? Does this differ state to state? A call for each is required here in NJ.

In Texas if you have a CHL, they dont do a NICS check, so add another million sales for Texas just to be on the safe side.

you HAVE to get a handgun permit here to buy a handgun

but you can use it for longguns or handguns

I work at a gunshop Id say 85% of our sales do not go through NICS


so yeah for all the other states that have NICS bypassing permits and can be used for multiple guns I would wild ass guess the actual number of firearms sold is probably 35% higher than that number

Also remember that no NICS check is required on an approved Form 1, Form 4, or Form 5.
