Well I decided to do another gun after taking a while off. I just want to share some of the cool stuff I heard today.

    1) The only reason people buy Remingtons, and Smith & Wessons is because they can't afford Winchesters and Colts.
    2) M1C's came with Zeiss scopes, I know, I carried one in Vietnam.
    3) .308 is more powerful than .300 Win Mag, that's why the military uses it in their sniper rifles.
    4) I am selling these guns for my aunt, they belonged to my uncle, he died about 15 years ago and she is just now getting around to selling them. I asked why every one of them looked like they were just reblued so he packed up a walked away.
    5) I will give you $1000 for both of your Winchester 52B's and the 52D. I asked of he had the cash so he counted out $1000 and put it on the table, then I said, No I changed my mind have a nice day.
    6) One guy offered me $300 for an extremely clean Colt Police Positive .22lr I was asking $850 for. He begged and pleaded then said, come on work with me, what can you do. I said $900, the guy across the isle laughed, then the douche walked away. I took the Colt off of the table and put it in my case, about 20 minutes later the douche came back and saw it gone and pouted all the way to the door.
    7) Some of the excuses we heard today, I'll be right back, I have to ask my wife, I would buy it but I already have 3 of them, that's a nice rifle (pre-64 model 70 featherweight) but I am looking for the sniper model, I don't need another gun (WTF does need have to do with anything?)
    8) My Savage will shoot as good as any custom rifle.

Two more days of gun show so probably more to come.

I had tables at Tulsa and Ft Worth for years. Never pd a bill trading, just fed a very expensive gun habit. I could write stories for days. You overlook the ignorant people, and never stereotype. Sold a $56001886 TD 45-90 to an older gentleman who I wouldn't have guessed he had $500 on him. $2500 Rem/NF combo to a Hispanic who knew rifles. Have had lots fun but have basically outgrown it. Quality is not out there like it was. Still go Tulsa but it is more a social event.

I agree, you never know who has money and who is just tire kicking. I met a very wealthy guy at gun shows in CA that owned a Lamborghini dealership. He dressed like a back yard mechanic and drove a beat up Chevy stepside. We became friends and I had no idea what or who he was until he invited me to his house. A good friend of mine owns a huge tow company and dresses like a back woods Okie but won't go to a gun show without having $20K in his pocket. I never make fun of anyone or give them a hard time until they earn it.

a buddy and i get a table occasionally just to unload odds and ends we have laying around...a guy would be surprised if you start piling stuff up that you dont use how much crap you have. and what better place to unload it? some good people, some knuckleheads. after a couple of days of it, i've had enough for another year or two.
what is worse yet is listening to people try to give advice to women. on that i know...she is viciously smart and a great student. the stuff people try to tell her, assuming she is a female and doesnt know any better, is astounding.

Not much to report today, just a few dads telling their kids the Unertl scopes were sniper scopes, and the Winchester 52's were either sniper rifles or sniper training rifles. One guy did ask if my 52D was a .50BMG, he looked disappointed when I told him it was a .22 single shot. Lots of people trying to sell their custom CMMG or Anderson AR's.

From the other side of the table:

    - The new Bushnells are every bit as good as Nightforce, USO, S&B...

    - All AR parts are made in the same place

    - The .270 drops less than an inch from 100 to 500 yards

    - This is milspec...the best you can buy

    - Ad nauseam

You should hand out deodorant with every firearms purchase. I hate shows in the summer.

What's even worse is this show is at the Grand Sierra Resort casino so there's a bar in the middle of the gun show and one right outside the main entrance. Nothing like stinky drunks.

Not many at the show today, just a lot of tough talk from the fat old guys about how they would deal with Antifa, lots of Commiefornians looking at the stuff they can't own, and the Winchester/Colt guy telling bullshit stories about some engineer friends of his that attached a JATO rocket to a Camaro then jumped the Grand Canyon.

Gee, sounds just like a PA show.

To be fair, and not knowing the context of some of those comments:

Lets say you're a dealer and have some of the newer Bushnell scopes on your table for $1k plus. How many millions of middle aged men remember when Bushnell was a really cheap lower quality optic? Unless they're actively keeping up with shit, they have no idea that Bushies are now very viable options in high-end optics. Are they "every bit as good" as the big names, maybe not. But that's a sincere "maybe" if you recall Killswitch's scope testing.

As for the AR parts thing, we know that there are shops milling their own receivers, and barrels are not all created equal, but I also recall from years ago being told (I'm pretty sure here) that for basic stripped uppers and lowers there were only a few shops manufacturing them and the individual companies had their names put on them.

Im not looking to start a huge debate on that BS, it matters not at all to me, but for Gunshow silliness (of which there's plenty on both sides of the tables) those were two reasonable generalities for a 5 second statement without getting into hours of discussion on why they're not accurate.

Take some std lake city ball ammo, dip paint the bullet with any combo/s that was never issued an set them in a display case. Brown/orange, pink/white/pink, gold/black, or yellow/tan are my favorites. make sure you record the comments, for play back later.

Sonofabitch that's brilliant. I'm about positive I walked past something like that many moons ago at a show with my ex wife. She asked me what the colors meant and my response was "no fuckin idea, never saw or shot those when I was in". I felt like I'd been missing out on some toys that must have been reserved for cool kids, like the Raufoss. It makes me feel better to hear that it may have been a gag or a scam to sell standard ball as something special.

I never sold any, I was just looking for the laughs. Some of the responses would have made the guys at LC proud to know somebody would even think they were that good at getting a small nuke package into a 147gr FMJBT.

I agree lots of BS from both sides of the table and anytime I hear a complete load of horseshit I call it out, especially when it is another vendor shoveling shit trying to make a sale. When they try that crap with me I simply tell them I buy guns not bullshit.

I started this thread to share some of the humorous stuff I hear at shows. You know, like the guy telling you he killed a 20 point elk at 900 yards in the pouring rain with a .243. Just about everyone was either a Navy Seal or personally knew Carlos Hathcock.

I am definitely going to do this. There are a bunch of soldier of fortune snipers in this area, I bet the comments will be priceless.

Tulsa is an amazing show, but I only do Friday.... I work with some friends who have a booth and once we're set up, I can work the place before the Saturday riff-raff. There is far less stupidity on Fridays!

I've tried to calculate the amount of cash in that building on Friday. It's gotta be in the tens of millions. Last time I went, I watched a Volcanic change hands for about $40K. Cash. On a table. Big blocks of bills.

I've scored some amazing guns at Tulsa and some spectacular bargains. A couple of English shotguns, a rook rifle. A novelty piece that is now at the NRA museum. Some great miniatures. Probably the best show there is... though I hear that the Antique Arms Show in Vegas is spectacular.

Best gun show wisdom I ever heard was "Buy low, sell never."

Great list, OP. I'd laugh harder.. but I've heard half those pearls of wisdom before... at gun shows and ranges. Lawd....

    Cheers,

    Sirhr

Practice your straight man face, it will be worth it.
You'll have to explain to some how you came about them. I normally just say, sorry but that's on a need to know only. Had one guy ask me if I knew the ATF was at the show, to which I said yes, but they have already seen my paper work.

my favorite are the guys at the table selling body armor who keep swearing up and down "Ahhh Body armor is gonna be banned soon!....going to congress as we speak!"

been hearing that shit for 10 years now......i know the govt moves at a snails pace.....but damn.

    noun [ U ] us /ˈsɑrˌkæz·əm/

› literature remarks that mean the opposite of what they say, made to criticize someone or something in a way that is amusing to others but annoying to the person criticized:

Wasn't meant to be a dig on you sir. I don't know you from Adam, but beleive you are doing it right when it comes to gun shows from what I've read. The same can't be said for a lot of the vendors and the majority of the attendees. Heck, I don't even go in gun shops.

That is very true. I went to one years ago. I saw no need to attend a second one.

I went to one upon my return Stateside in 96. I accompanied a friend to one more maybe 10 yrs ago. It's not an environment I plan on subjecting myself to anymore. Coming from a Jailer doesn't 'that' speak volumes? Yes, yes it does. ;)

No problem, no offense taken. It's all in good fun.

I don't go to most gun shops either, only so many AR's, AK's and plastic pistols a guy can take. I do frequent the guns shops and pawn shops that get the kind of stuff I like.

One of the guys I used to see all of the time when I sold at guns shows in VA was keeping a log book of "Gun Show Excuses". When ever he heard a new he would yell out, "Wow, a new one, gun show excuse number 153, I have to add that to my book"

One group of guys I forgot to mention are the guys that either walk around the gun show with the Blue Book of Gun Values tucked under their arm or they check Gun Broker on their phone for every gun they look at. I had a very nice Smith & Wesson 52 in the box with everything plus 2 additional spare mags. I was asking $1500 and some D-Bag got out his blue book and said "that only books for $900", my response is always, "Go buy one from the guy that wrote the book then." The exact opposite of that is the dealers that get out their blue book and try to use it to buy guns, those are the guys that always have the mix master 1903 Springfields on their tables for $5K, or the 52 Winchester with 12 extra holes for $2500.
