Out of curiosity, what is the going rate to have a smith put a rifle together after a customer has purchased all the "virgin" parts for it?

You can check any of the builders websites and it will give you the prices for any work they perform.

It is rather variable, and depends on exactly which Virgin parts you have and what fitting and modification is required. Also depends on the smith in question, their capabilities and their experience etc. Looking at the different folks on here who do that type of work will give you an average idea based on WHAT you have and WHAT you want.

Action needing work, or custom action. Muzzle brake, or not. Finish type. What stock, as the bedding work can vary. All these variables can change the price. Prices also vary between builders depending on overhead, equipment used, and popularity & abiltys of the gun builder. You need to figure out who you want to do the work, then contact, and get an accurate quote. All that said, on average, and this is not written in stone, about $1000.00. Remember, this will vary.

I was thinking of going with a Surgeon Action, Kreiger barrel, Jewell trigger, and some type of AICS chassis.
