Has anyone ever tried to use gunkote on a wooden stock? I've got a project for a buddy that wants his turkey gun camoed up and wanted me to shoot the stock while I was shooting the gun. It being a paint it should adhere to the stock if it is prepared properly but wasn't sure how to cure the paint. Do I just let it air dry a couple of days or try to stick it in the oven at around 120 for an hour.
Let me know your thoughts

Re: Gunkote over a wood stock

Shooting a higher end finish like Gunkote on wood is like a fat chick in a Prada dress. Sure, its doable, but why? I'd go with simple krylon, or something air-cured. We are probably the biggest fan of KG products here, but I just don't see the need for it on wood. When we need camo on wood we generally use alumahyde over a very well cured Minwax clear coat (we like the satin finish), but I cannot recall the last time we did it. In all honesty, a decent piece of wood is at its best with a simple light stain to bring out character and a sealer to protect it. Synthetic stocks are too cheap to justify painting wood.
