What part of illinois? Give Pekin Gun a call in pekin. They are a gun shop but IMO the BEST I have ever been to. If they use a smith in the area be assured it is a good one. Dave (owner) has never steered my family wrong and we have been using him since he was in his basement.

I've only had a few customs built, but two were in Illinois. I had Miller Custom build me a nice 1911, he's in Geneseo. I had White Oak Armament build me a custom AR upper and he is just outside Bloomington.
I haven't found a good instate bolt-action smith, but I haven't looked too hard. I have heard good things about Geoff Corn in central Indiana and I picked up a nice used custom built buy the smith Graff's use somewhere near St. Louis. Those are the only two I know of that are "close" to Illinois.
