What gun vise do you all use. I have been looking but cannot decide. I need one for mounting scopes and cleaning break action rifles, along with the usual rifles and maintenance. I have been looking at Tipton best gun vise. But is it the best??

Re: Gunsmith vise?

I doubt you'll find one that is the 'best' for everything. Ergo, you'll have to either settle for one that is "better for a particular application". As opposed to "one vice does all".

Figure out what you do(intend to do) the most, and then find or build what would work best for yourself. Depending on direction, you may end up with more than one.

There's pics around here (in previous 'vice' threads) that I've posted on one that I'd made. It also is always in one state of 'revision' or another.

The biggest point though, is make sure that whatever you intend it to do, it does WELL. Not 'half-assed' at everything.

Mistakes can be costly. Especially if you're working on someone else' possession.

There's my $0.015

Tipton Best Gun Vise has suited my needs both with my Savage 12 F T/R and Bushmaster AR15.

Re: Gunsmith vise?

I have Tiptons Best Gun Vise and use it for maintenance on SR-25's and M14's. I am very happy with it. I dont own any other vises so I can not offer any pros or cons.
