What I do after the basics are worked out verbally or via e-mail is draft a build sheet that contains all of the information and requirements about the build. This build sheet is then e-mailed to the customer and is either approved and signed, or corrections/clarifications are made. I will not start on the build until everything on the build sheet is verified/approved by the customer. Is this a "contract?" Not sure, but it helps immensely down the road....
