I finally picked up a 2.0 for my 300WM and one thick stuck out really bad in my mind, the sling loop on the right hand side of the gun at the folding point. Is there any way to remove that sling loop? I was planning on cutting it off and hitting the spot with some cold blue.

How does it get in the way? It does not interfere with anything. Just prior to sending this I picked up my rifle, gripped the stock and it interferes with nothing, its way too small to interfere with anything. If that small sling attachment gets in the way, so does the bolt, scope turrets etc which stick out alot further. Unless you plan on keeping it forever or never folding the stock and slinging the rifle, go for it. It's there for a reason. I still don't know it gets in the way. Why even buy a folding stock if you don't plan on utilizing it's features. I would not buy the folding stock just for the purposes of cleaning.Thats just me of course.

+1
that loop has never gotten in my way and I own and shoot 3 guns that are 2.0 chassis.
The only thing I find issue with is the extra weight of the 2.0 over the 1.5.
a 20" barrel with folder makes sense. It is easy to pack in a smaller hard case. Other than that I think the 2.0 is just a "cool factor" thing.

I can hit it pretty regularly when working the AI bolt fast. Maybe it's an AI bolt thing, the bolt handle may be a little shorter than a Rem 700 in an AICS....and with the 60 degree throw your bolt handle isn't up as high.

Vin and shoot4fun, are you two running AI's or Rem's in AICS?

Yous' may consider switching the hinge assembly around so that the hook tab is on the other side.

As a side effect the butt will fold to the opposite side providing a flat surface when slung.

The assm. is held in by some screws and is glued.

If some mild heat is applied after the screws are removed the assm. can be lightlly driven out and reinserted.

I probably don't need to tell anyone, but this have an effect on the warranty.

I don't think I would go that route, especially with an AE or AW.

For one, your stock won't latch in the folded position anymore and you would need to cut a hole in the skin for your bolt knob. I don't know if this would be an issue for the AICS with a factory Remington knob.

I will give you points for thinking outside of the box though.

Yea your right about modding a stock when the action is bonded to it.

Getting the butt to latch again is in the works and shouldn't be a problem.

As for the bolt handle, When I can get some time with a buddies TIG welder there will be a cutout for the handle to go through "ala Remington MSR"

Re: Guy's with an AICS 2.0, cut off your sling loop?

ive never had a problem on any AICS or AI i have ever run. Ive used 4 different AI stocks and have yet to clip a finger with the sling loop

What about wrapping the loop with paracord? Might be a touch larger after that, but won't hurt to hit it. Just a thought.

I have 2.0 stage on a Custom Rem .308 and a 1.5 stage on an AI AE MKII.Maybe it would be diferent with an AI bolt but I don't have to worry about it with the AI because it's a non folding stock.

Never hit it hard enough to hurt. It just happens now and then depending on the position and the technique I use to run the bolt.

When I was running out timed qual yesterday I was "gripping and ripping". I didn't hit the loop once. It just depends.

Well said Sarge! Same rifle, same stock and same lack of problems! I'm an Airborne Armourer who's been working on these folding stocks (fitted to our AI 308's) since we pushed into Iraq way back in 2003 and not once have any of my Recce Sniper guys requested I hack it off.

On a slight tangent - Now that i've 'aquired' one of these 2.0 suckers for my Rem 700 Tac, I'm trying to find a compact drag bag that will hold my baby with her butt to the side, she's a wide ass bitch so not to sure if the Eagle M4 Drag Bag will take the strain, any ideas? cheers... Airborne out!
