The image is of a P7 with the open slide that is not being restrained by the slide release mechanism, it is jammed in this position. I can knock the slide back into place, but the problem persists. It takes about 50 rounds before the slide will jam, so I am assuming this problem is heat-related, however, once the jamming begins it will not stop regardless of the temperature of the housing. Cleaning seems to help. Of course, I wish the firearm to fire more than 50 times per session.

Re: H&K P7 slide jamming issue

Most likely your gas tube has carboned up and the piston is binding. There is a tool made specifically to clean the carbon deposits (scraper) and that usually will resolve the issue you describe. The reason it keeps reocurring because once you disassemble, clean, lube, etc. it will free up for several rounds and then bind again. Carbon builds up over time in the gas tube and cannot be properly cleaned away without the proper scraper/tool.
