I had one of my handloads hang fire today. Kinda freaked me out. It wasnt much of a delay, fraction of a second.

Is this the result of something I did in my hand loading process?

BTW I had 2 handloads misfire about 2 weeks ago with the same components. After that I didnt use my handloads until today, I was kinda afraid of them, now I am more afraid of them.

Heres the load:

175smk
PMC brass shot at least 1-2 times before
41.6g IMR 4064
Winchester primers

Thanks guys.

Re: Hang fires 308?

Keep the primers sealed in a ammo can. Keep them cool & dry. Don't handle them with your bare hands or let them become contaminated in any way. That's probably the most likely cause. If it was a steady kind of thing I would suggest changing the firing pin spring. But primer contamination is the number one reason for hang fires.

Re: Hang fires 308?

VERY important safety tip. Leave them in their factory bozes. Just put the whole box / container in an ammo box to protect the primers from moisture. DO NOT dump the primers out into any other container. The factory containers are constructed to prevent a sympathetic detonation. Or, where if one pops they all go off.

I mark the boxes when I buy them with the date and where I bought them.
