Hanging stuff from the barrel?

I’m looking at weapons lights for my new KP-9

I see lots of people swap out the lower hand guard for a railed one, I like the original based on its history, how it feels, and it’s already a short grip, figure adding stuff to my “grip zone” is eating real estate in short supply

The KP-9 has a very small pic rail on the bottom of the front sight, was thinking of adding a SureFire X300 right there, would that work? Any issues?

Looking through photos on the interwebz I don’t see many people use that rail

Thanks

Looks like it (might) be a great candidate for the TLR-1HL rocker switch (downward is ON) style over the Surefire "push" style X300. I own and use both.

but...

1.
there might not be enough "rail" to get a solid lock on it

If you tighten the bar of the locking mechanism BEHIND the little tiny pic rail section it MIGHT work but...

2.
there doesn't look to be enough space BEHIND the pic rail for an actual light housing/battery compartment to fit without adding some type of adapter

(without the long extension of course)

Possibly something shorter like a TLR 7 maybe?

3.
perhaps something like this?

That last one looks interesting,

Is that midget rail for a bayonet?

The small TLRs seem good, but I hear it’s only 500 lumes for 60 seconds then like 300

Like?

Where you see the thumb screw on the surefire will be the center of the picatinny rail. I do not think the back of the light would fit in front of the handguard.

You could add a riser, but that may get awkward.

Add a 45 degree offset rail to it like for a rds. Should swing it out enough to clear all around?

Wouldn’t really call that an adapter? It’s part of the fsb, no different than an ar15 gas block with pic rail built in, or the top rail of a handguard.

As for arm position, find one with a wire control and mount it where you want.

I was thinking arm as in the leverage between the light and connection to the barrel

Is there a 45 offset bayonet->pic adapter?

A Surefire Scout picatinny mount would work in that 1-slot, and you can adjust the tension on the mount itself reposition it. It'll work either using the clicky cap for actuation or Ranger band/grip tape/rigger's tape a switch to it using the different Surefire ends. Pickup a Modlite PLHv2 or OKW head and you'd be ready to rock and roll with all the lumens and/or candela you could want.

Edit to add a pic - that is a Surefire scout mount with a 18650 Surefire DualFuel (DF) body, Modlite clicky and Modlite head

I’d bet money there is just about any style mount out there you want/need. Push come to shove, delta force used hose clamps and old dive lights back in the days
