Harris adapter necessary for medalist a2?

Im getting a harris brm-s bipod, is the flat forend adapter necessary on the medalist a2 stock?

I've never needed one on mine, but I would recommend a think piece of foam cut out and placed between the bipod and the stock because the bipod will rub a little.
