I'm wanting to refinish an old Reminton 700 wood BDL stock, and try to duplicate the original high gloss finish on it. The problem with automotive paints like PPG is I would have to buy like a gallon of it for over $100 when I'm only needing like about 8 ounces of paint. I can get 8 ouncres of Duracoat clear gloss coat for about $35 shipped.

I've used their solid colors but have no experience with the clear gloss.

I haven't used it not no way it will be as strong and as glossy like a urethane car finish. Another option is prep the stock and have a body shop paint it. If u were close I'd spray it for you. Its easy and comes out like glass.

Stay away from PPG anyway. I've worked at shops using several systems. I'm a huge fan of Diamont and Glasurit. One hardered and reducer works in the whole line. Also PPG is mostly solvent and very low in solids. A quart of Glasurit will cover more than PPG since it has more solids in it. So many paints are all resins. The better paint tend to shrink less and less gloss die back.
