Have actions, need project.

I've got a Savage short action and a Rem 700 short action just laying around the bench, but I just can't seem to commit either to a project. I "need" to replace a 6mmbr, seeing as I already have all the reloading supplies. I just can't decide which one to make into 6mmbr and for that matter what else I could do with the other action.


If you had a few spare short actions laying around, what would you do with them?

260 remington or 6.5 creedmoor. but thats because i already have my 6.5x47lapua. love these 6.5s...

if i had two actions laying around..id build a 600 yard BR rig for LV class, and a rifle for tactical matches.

i already built a tactical rifle off of my 700 action, so i was planning on doing the BR rig (in 6br as well) off an extra savage action i have.

for which one you wana turn into a 6br..i duno, im sure either will be a good choice. i feel as though id change around a tactical rig more than a br one, so id use the 700 for that if it was me. just for a little bit more of an aftermarket.

260, 7wsm,300wsm, or maybe a .223, you can never have too many of those.

My vote goes for a 6 BRX, basically a 6mmbr improved. You'd be able to use the components and dies you already have.

I'm leaning towards the 700 becoming a heavy bench gun in 6mmBR. As for the Savage action, I like the idea of a 7mm because I don't have one yet. I'm curious if you can seat a 180VLD in a 7mmWSM and still have it feel from the magazine?

I don't think that's a major problem, but don't quote me on that. Either way I believe it can be converted and then you have a 1600yd bolt gun. Suppress it or brake it and your good to go.

Everybody knows Savages are those cheap and ugly actions so you should do something with the Remmy and sell me that ugly and cheap looking Savage action...

I should point out that I've got the 6.5x47, 260, and 308 covered. Maybe a fast twist 22-250 barrel for the savage for the short term while I get together the rest of the parts for a 7mm WSM or SAUM.

If you do a 8 or 9 twist 250, i'd recommed going the ai route. Brass prep sucks and going ai will essentially eliminate it.
