Having some weird data off my Labradar (4200fps off a .22 sub weird)

Ok, gurus what did I mess up. I was running behind getting some data in for my .22 and just got around to run speed. I had not been able to pick up the rounds so I was told to get a JK inertia trigger. Well, I got it and it still won't trigger no matter where I place it on the rifle. Hell, the only way I got it to actually trigger the labradar was by thumping it as I shot. That didn't seem to help matters because when I do that it gives me way incorrect numbers.
Is there anyone who has experience with what setting I might have wrong to cause all this?

How long have you had your unit? Did it just start doing this and does it happen regardless of what you’re shooting or just the 22?

I’d call LabRadar, they are helpful. Had the same issue as you’re having starting from a couple months ago. Wouldn’t trigger at all. Called them, they recommended some troubleshooting. Tried those steps, none worked so I sent it back. It needed a new circuit board, sensor and front connector. Cost $125 including shipping both ways.

They had it for less than two weeks. It works fine now.

I’ve only had the unit for about 6mo. I was using it yesterday on my 6BR and it worked perfectly fine. I’ve never been able to get a .22 reading of of it hence the need for a trigger. So all this has just started with trying to hook up a external trigger to the LabRadar. Oh and speeds were 4220, 2971, 2888, and 3606. I set the LR to trigger not Doppler, distance 6”, LR set to 25yd, 35yd, 45yd and 50yd. Like I said still only triggered when I thumped it.

"Thumping" the trigger can produce a random wild velocity reading even with no shot fired. The original creator of those triggers shows it in the info videos on his site. You purchased the copy of it which doesn't have as much info on theirs.

As to the rest of your issues with .22, the closer the trigger is to the action the more sensitive it is. The other "gotcha" with .22 is you need to change the "Velocity Range" to the Handgun setting. Lastly due to the small size of the projectile aiming the unit at the target as best you can helps.

Ok I’ve not heard of switching to handgun. I will try that. I did position it just about every half inch starting at the action ending at the end of the hand guard and never got a single trigger. Way to many rounds wasted today amd I just want to have a better idea in what to try so I don’t waste any more.

I was DM’d about the JK being a knockoff(ish) That’s the bad thing about some people. Morality seems to only be a chapter in a history book.

Also two other tips:
Set Trigger Level to 1, which is the most sensitive setting.
Try changing the direction of the trigger on the gun.

What I mean by this last one is the sensors used are basically a stiff wire surrounded by a spring. On edge cases like this or an airgun having the spring parallel to the barrel will reduce sensitivity, perpendicular will increase it. I don't know how the sensor is oriented in the JKL, but my guess is inline with the cable. Most of their pics show the cable parallel to the bore so just rotate it 90 degrees from however you have had it attached.

Thank you! I tried those suggestions. With the .22 suppressed I still get nothing. I tried it out on my other rifles and it worked with the 6creed but not with the 6br. Also I want to throw out one thing. I did reach out to JKL Precision to get a comment or two. I have received absolutely ZERO response.

Were you able to pick up the .22 without a can with the Handgun velocity range?

^^ this is the one I ordered. I still haven’t tried it yet. I wave been told it is flawless and some times it is needed to be held in the trigger hand with Radar on support side. Arm the radar and shoot. Disarm and cycle the bolt. Then repeat. I have seen some use it draped over the scope and work. Like I said I still have not used mine yet.

I use a loop of shock cord and a barrel lock and attach it to the scope. It looks like Piet now includes a velcro strap which will do the same thing.

I’m going to try draping it over. That might just work. It just stinks I was excited about getting all the rifles doped in and hit a brick wall. If the temperature will warm up any I’ll head out Wednesday and try these. As for Piet, I feel like I owe him an apology. I which I had known.
