Guys,
I have been shooting AR-15s for around 8 years now. I am familiar with the "sprong" noise when shooting them. However, I just got my can, and now its much more noticeable to the point that I am concerned its doing damage. My bro in law is running a similar suppressed set up and his is no where near as loud/harsh. The only solution I could come up with was getting a Wolff extra power spring. Any help, thoughts would be appreciated.

My setup:
20" 5.56 rifle length gas
Shooting 68 grain reloads
Rifle length buffer tube (factory Sun Devil)
Confirmed by weight that I have a rifle buffer (factory Sun Devil)
Unknown buffer spring (factory Sun Devil)
SAS M47 direct thread 223 can

The only difference between my set up and Bro in law, is that he is running a 30 cal SS can from SAS (his is quieter).

Thanks again.

Ty

Re: Heavy "sprong" in buffer tube with suppressor

There are a couple "fixes" if you are concerned about increased recoil, wear/tear, abuse on your rifle while shooting it suppressed. The Wolff XP spring, by itself, may help considerably. Springs are cheap and it is worth picking one up to give it a try.

The other option that I recommend to most folks who shoot their AR suppressed a lot is a heavy buffer made by Clint Butler (aka "Slash") as seen here:

His heavy buffers for the AR-15 rifle are roughly twice the weight/mass of the standard A2 Rifle buffer (like your buffer from Sun Devil) and they really slow things down/calm things down a good bit when shooting suppressed!

I am running a JP adj. gas block on my R-15 and with my can on it can be tuned to optimal levels to control recoil...works very well. http://www.jprifles.com/1.4.6_gs.php
Also, the Noveske Switchblock does the same thing, however it is much easier/faster to switch between suppressed and unsuppressed or different loads if you find yourself switching often. You're paying for it, but it's nice. http://www.noveskerifleworks.com/switchblock/
