Suppressors Heavy suppressors & barrel droop? Or is it something else?

I'm fighting an issue I just can't seem to put my finger on for a solution, hoping someone on the hide may have some input.

A few years ago I got a ridiculous deal on a YHM Phantom M2 .30cal QD stainless suppressor, it was too good of a deal to pass up. My idea was to use this suppressor on my long range rifle(s) that I wasn't worried about keeping lightweight (suppressor weighs a beastly 25oz).

The problem I am having is that I am getting an unpredictable (timing) but repeatable POI shift after I make my first 4-5 shots. Say I make 5 shots in fairly rapid succession (~15-20sec apart), I will have a nice tight group for those first shots and then suddenly I will get a POI shift about 3" low and all subsequent shots will group in this area until I let the rifle sit for maybe 5 or so minutes. My theory was that the barrel was getting hot and the heavy suppressor was making it droop causing this shift, and then after letting it cool it would go back to the proper POI. That was until I talked to a few people who have this same can on various bolt guns that claim no matter how hot they get, POI remains predictable and don't see this same shift that I am seeing. Furthermore after those first 5 or so shots, I can still grab my barrel, it's not that hot. The barrel on the primary rifle that this gets used (6.5cm RPR) is also a quite heavy profile (LRI 24" and .83" at the mount shoulder).

I have also used this suppressor on my 18" Proof Research 5.56 carbon fiber barreled AR and it exhibits the exact same properties but much more pronounced, with the POI shift being greater than 9" but the barrel does get VERY hot. PR also confirmed that when the resin reaches the point where it becomes elastic, a POI shift such as this is fairly common. My main concern is with this issue on my 6.5cm bolt gun.

From what I've seen, weight does play a part along with the barrel contour. But in your case, 25 oz is not so heavy that you would be implicating it as a problem.

I have this can. I get this issue when the can is not locked down tight. If it's on the detent just before it fully lock, you will get this. Make sure there is no wiggle.... if you haven't already.
I haven't tested if it's landing between notches yet, but if it is, should I back it off so that it sits in the detent prior to full lockup, or is there something I can do to get it to snug to the next notch?

Don't back it off. If you see that it sits between the notches, just take your fingers and rotate the detent ring. If you back it off, you will keep having the same issue.
Great advice, thank you! I didn't think about rotating the detent ring. I still haven't had a chance to go and look at my rifle, been busy. Hopefully next weekend I can give this a test.
